Toothache.

Feel like an idiot making a FA thread but srsly, am in so much pain. Tooth hurts, half my face hurts but is also weirdly numb. It has made me cry, it's very painful. Have taken regular OTC painkillers which haven't touched it. Not registered with a dentist so imagine getting an appointment will not be immediate. Anything else I can do?

It's definitely not silly to make a thread :) I think it's against the rules to provide links but I believe there is a helpline that offers dental advice 9-5 weekdays and also out of hours in emergencies. I think 111 might be able to advise too. Where there is pain like yours, they should be able to advise on accessing emergency dental care (plus I think some private dentists offer emergency appointments to non-registered patients for a fee).

I'm not sure about dental care at home, but sometimes using something cold on the cheek can help, and my boyfriend quite often finds Orajel (sp?) quite helpful, which you can get from pharmacies OTC.

It may be that there's an infection there so seeing a dentist asap would help diagnose as if you need antibiotics that should help reduce the pain, and also any dental work if you need it (you may not need any) is unlikely to be carried out until after the infection is gone. If you find dentists scary then knowing that can sometimes be of help :)

Not silly to make the thread at all lovely, sorry you are in pain.

This NHS Page outlines some of your options. In a nut shell 111 is the answer.

Might also be worth popping along to your local pharmacy to see if there are other things you can get OTC that will help - a medicated mouthwash might help too.

Priority really is get seen by a dentist.

I can't remember if it was place specific but where I used to live there was a dental emergency number. They got me an appointment the next day and I wasn't registered at that dentist. Maybe do a google search.
Clove oil can sometimes help

Thank you guys so much, that is really helpful!

Thankfully my toothache has almost gone today which is odd but a huge relief! I have found a dentist to register with and will do so tomorrow, and discovered that there's an emergency dental place here if I do end up needing it!
