Paricardial effusion

What exactly is a pericardial effusion? I was diagnosed with plural effusions and a pericardial effusion and I know what a plural effusion is because I had one back in January but I don't understand what a pericardial effusion is, can someone explain it to me and why it hurts so bad?

I advise you to take advantage of being in hospital and ask a doctor.
In contrast to people on here they will actually be able to explain it to you in detail and carry out any treatment you might need.

For a general idea it can be helpful to use Google, just be careful about any type of information you find online and still consult a doctor.

My psychiatrist and my ADON has tried to explain it to me but I just can't understand it in their terms. I was wondering if someone could explain it in easier to understand terms

Pericardium effusion is basically when there is an abnormal amount of fluid surrounding the heart. This can cause pressure which can negatively affect heart function.
Hope this helps :)

Have you tried asking them to write it down, then you can take your time to look over it and come up with a list of questions/terms you need explaining better?

Also if you're experiencing pain, it sounds like you really need to speak with them about it to see if there is anything that can be done.

Sorry if that's not what you what to hear, but as you are presumably under a doctor's care for this, and I know you have other physical health issues that could impact it, I am unsure what more we are even allowed to say.

Please do not give me virtual hugs unless you are only using the hug function on threads. Thanks.

You can't always keep it separate.

This would be much better explained by the professionals involved in your care- I would advise you to explain to them exactly which bits you don't understand and they can make it clearer. WebMD is on the approved list of links for the first aid board, so I can share this link with you if you would like to read it, but it's nowhere near as good as a personalised explanation from the professionals involved in your care!

I hope you are able to discuss this with your team and that they explain it in a way that you can understand.

I'm now going to close this thread as there isn't anything more that we can say within the rules of the forum as you are under the care of a doctor for this.

No other sadness in the world would do
