Hangover induced-depression
I just wanted your opinions concerning depression and alcohol.
I'm 25 and I used to be able to drink like a fish and suffer nothing more than a bad hangover which would only last 24 hours max.
I went traveling round Europe which included a heavy amount of drinking for a week and by the end of it I began to feel really low but never associated it with the alcohol.
Recently however I have began to notice that each time I drink, not even necessarily heavily, I suffer from bad anxiety and depression for days afterwards, sometimes even a week.
I just wondered whether any of you guys have suffered similar issues and how you coped with them. I am considering going T-total but I would find it very difficult considering most of my friends drink.
Hope you can help

I just wanted to say that for the past six months or so, I've had exactly what you're explaining. I feel so depressed the following morning, it made me decide that getting drunk isn't worth it, so I now only drink very rarely!
Alcohol is a depressant, so it's not a complete surprise that it makes us feel this way, especially if you suffer from depression anyway.

I have recently been experiencing the same sort of thing. The morning after drinking I was feeling depressed and not myself at all. After drinking two nights in a row it got to the stage where I was crying my eyes out and had no idea why.
Alcohol is a depressant and probably best avoided. I'm going to try if I'm drinking just having one or two and see if that makes a difference.

Was out last night and had 2 drinks (rum and coke followed by a glass of red wine) and had very similar results. The depression wasn't as debilitating as it is after a heavy night but my body is clearly trying to tell me something.
I may book a doctors appointment just to be sure there isn't anything wrong internally.
After a quick search on google there are a number of people with similar complaints although a majority of these people are also on various anti-depressants.

When I was 21-22 and drank, I would always experience higher levels of depression and anxiety even up to a week after drinking. As alcohol is a depressant, it makes sense, but still is a pain. I don't drink anymore due to health issues and anxiety since drinking caused me one of the most severe anxiety attacks I've ever had. You're not alone and I hope you feel even a bit better soon.

Alcohol definitely makes things worse. When I was last depressed and going to the pub, it didn't help one bit and I noticed my mood would dip afterwards instead of feeling better. X

Hey I have this and Iv decided to reduce the amount I drink I've had a few social events now that everyone was drinking and I decided to be the driver people accept that after a while I'm lucky I'm probably more fun sober than drunk
Is it really worth it that's what you have to ask
