Sexual Health - Congenital syphilis.

Apparently there is congenital syphilis in my mum's side of the family, and my mum also had gonorrhoea while she was pregnant with me.

Now admittedly I do not know much about STDs.

Can anyone advise me on what I should do?

I have 12 separate diagnoses and my uterine development was abnormal, as well as my developmental delay after I was born.

Should I go to my GP? What tests could be done?

PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10 or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.

I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.

TO be honest I think you should see your GP if you can. They have your full medical records (usually) and have the knowledge to advise you appropriately.

Ok will do. Although I'm not convinced I'm affected tbh.

You absolutely may not be affected in any way. However if it is playing on your mind then it's worth talking it over. Hope that helps you x

I told my support worker and she thinks my mum might have made it up. Great.

Doesn't congenital syphilis mean that it's present at birth, passed to the child from a mother who has the condition whilst pregnant? It's congenital not hereditary, so couldn't really be 'on your mum's side' in a way that a hereditary condition could be. I guess if someone had congenital syphilis and never got it treated then had a baby then several generations could have it and it might look hereditary, but that seems very unlikely!

If you are worried you could speak to a doctor and have an STD test to put your mind at rest about this and the gonorrhoea.

Ooops that was a critical error in my language. Sorry I meant that my mum said she may have had syphilis when I was born, but she didn't get tested.

My mum is an unreliable person for information tbh, I've realised. She has confabulation at times due to chronic alcohol addiction (she is doing it less now but still slips up when stressed) so I'm now not sure how reliable this information is.

However I am pretty certain my mum consumed alcohol quite frequently when she was pregnant with me.

I'll ask my GP.

No definitely not trying to get pregnant. I'm asexual.
