Flea season is upon us.

For those who have pets will know this time of year, the fleas come out of hiding & start chewing on your ankles.

Was wondering what others used to treat their pets for fleas? Frontline, Bob Martin?

I heard that washing up liquid is a pretty good killer of fleas, although the cat hates me for it... Also, putting a bowl of warm water underneath a lamp works, the fleas are lulled into a false sense of security & jump towards the light, they then fall to their death in the hot soapy water!

Have always used Frontline! Archie never got any fleas the whole 11 years we had him.

I get Frontline from y vet. Tea tree oil also helps. I get it in doggy shampoo.

I should mention Archie was a dog, so I don't know about Frontline for cats. Asking the vet is best as they will give prescription strength flea creams where anything bought in shops etc wont be as effective.

Bob Martin is useless according to every vet I have spoken to.

I used to use frontline combi and now I use Boardline [simply because it contains a wormer in it so I don't have to tablet my cat as well], but essentually you need to de-flea and de-worm because both paracites occur together. Fleas transmit tapeworms. I would stick to the 5 weekly stuff you put on their neck; just remember to keep it up!

You need to understand the flea life cycle to help break it.

Vaccuming will help pick up eggs in the environment, as the warmer weather is upon us, the only way to rid yourself of the eggs that have hatched is to spray the house with Indorex that can kill fleas [on contact] or wait for the fleas to bite your pet knowing your pet is covered and they will die within 24/48 hours.

Anything your vaccum cleaner does not pick up you need to encourage to hatch because it will lay dormant for many months, possibly years.

You can buy additional knock on products from vetinarians where you spray your pet but I'm not a fan of these cos you risk getting the stuff in their eyes and its not very easy to dose it correctly.

Wash all bedding at 60 degrees C or higher. Do not spray pet bedding, simply wash it as often as possible.

I would highly recommend Advantage.
I would never ever touch Bob martin with a barge pole again! I swear it practically killed my cat but left the fleas! never used anything so dangerous and pointless in my life she reacted really badly to it and i'm appaled after all the complaints they've had that they still stock it anywhere to be honest.

My cat gets Advantage, which works really well. I got my cat from the Cat's Protection League and in my area that is what they use for all their cats.

We use Advantage for the dog and cats and we don't seem to have any flea problems :)

I use Frontline. One of my cats had a flea allergy when I first got her. In the seven years I had her it's never come back.

Can fleas be taught to post? We could have use for them here.

I use Frontline on my dog and cat. However recently my cat seems to have a reaction to it and she keeps scratching her neck and has made it really sore :(

Does anyone know what I could use on her instead as I assume all the spot on treatments have similar ingredients?
