dbt

I'm being assessed for dbt soon for poor stress tolerance and mindfulness skills.

I'm quite please because I've wanted some therapy for a while and this is something I haven't tried.

My main diagnosis is schizoaffective disorder but my team think it's worth giving dbt a try.

Has anyone had this and how did it help you?

I haven't had DBT but I've done mindfulness and it has really helped across a whole array of difficulties, from controlling anger and nerves, to managing stress by breathing exercises and just focusing on being in the moment.

I did a lot of mindfulness classes when I was at the priory and to be fair to them, I've used a lot of what I learnt across a lot of situations. I know mental health everything is raving about mindfulness lately but it really is a helpful tool. x

I found DBT really good not only for my self harm but also reducing stress. I found that I ended up using skills that I thought wouldn't help for things that I would never have thought was an issue.

Mindfullness is so good once you get the hang of it. Check out an apps called Headspace its really good with mindfullness.

With both mindfullness and DBT, its like practice and practice and practice to get used to the skills so you're more able to use it in times of distress or around stressfull time.

thanks for this reply.
I have done some mindfulness in the past and found it helpful so to do a proper course would be really good I think.

Thanks. I have the headspace app and I love it but dont use it enough really.
I dont have problems with self harm anymore so that part of the theraphy might be a bit useless for me. however I do have maladaptive coping stratagies like drinking to much so I guess I could use it for that.
but the stress management should be good for me because Im a good stresser when things go wrong which can set off depression or psychosis.
