UK Question About Students Writing On Each Other

Over the years I've seen a lot of photos of UK students writing on each with markers. Sometimes the writing is on bawdy side. I never quite figured out what is was about but thought maybe it happened around graduation time? I've seen uni students do it (while wearing togas) and also young students. I've Googled various terms and never saw anything relevant

What's your actual question?

It's something people tend to do at school rather than uni. On their last day they get all their friends/ classmates/ teachers to sign their uniform as a bit of a momento of the time.

We write on uniforms at graduation, but not on skin (....it's hardly a memento?!)
And as Kim said here it is high school or primary, not university

As the others have said, it's usually the last day of primary school, secondary school or college/sixth form to write goodbye messages on your shirts/t-shirts as mementos etc.

At Uni it's usually to do with socials or club nights out - but sometimes can just be for a night out when people are drunk and think it's a good idea.

It's the ups and downs of living life this way. Promise me you'll never go away. Just stay with me through one more night because it's always darkest before the light and now I promise you I'll never turn away. I won't let you give us one less heart to break...

Thanks for answers. I've seen many photos like and knew it had something to do with school but the pub version threw me off. The pics above were from Edinburgh students. I was also wondering if there was a set term for that kind of activity "Oh its last day of school - lets ________". I've never seen anything exactly like it over here except for yearbook signings. I think I would have liked to write on the people instead.

We just called it signing each others shirts. There is no term exactly for it I don't think. I think writing on people has come about more from the drinking side of things (when A-Leveler's finish school and go to the pub after school then it goes from shirts to skin).

When it comes to University it is simply based on people being drunk and it goes from shirts to thinking writing on skin is funny/a good idea.

It is basically the same as signing year books; I in fact decided that on my last day of year 11 and sixth form I'd rather have a notebook with messages from my friends so I did both.

I was wondering about the part where people write on a person that they liked their boobs lol. I've seen a lot of that sort of thing with the uni signings and didn't know if the younger school signings were the same.

I never got to do the shirt signing thing.
I have however woken up after being passed out drunk with a penis drawn on my cheek and random writing.
Luckily not in marker pen though! Some people aren't so lucky....
It happened to at least one person at every house party.

I'm fine! Totally fine. I don't know why it's coming out all loud and squeaky, 'cause really, I'm fine!

Who else is fine?!?!?

Hmm...I did end up with some NSFW stuff written on my school shirt, but as it was the last day the teachers couldn't really do much about it.

.
These days people want to put you in jail on a deserted island for doing things like that lol - thus another reason I wondered about what the story was
