I don't know the teams well enough but I will watch as many games as I can. I have no fav team at the moment but I prefer the European teams. If a South American team wins there will be too much partying around me

Just watched England vs Italy. Wasn't a particularly watchable game for a rookie like me. But the later rounds will be more watchable I suspect

The way everyone turns into a football fan when the world cup comes around does my head in. If people don't like football why watch it?

I think for some people, they don't enjoy football enough to watch it all year round, but with the added patriotism of the world cup they do enjoy watching a game or two when the world cup comes around. Same happens with wimbledon, and people start playing as well (our club used to be overflowing with people joining during wimbledon) and if it gets more people into sport, then why not?
I'm not watching it as I really have negligible interest in football, but will keep an eye on the results, as my form group organised a sweepstake and if Belgium or the Netherlands win, then I win the prize (which I imagine they are expecting me to provide in the first place :p)

Because a lot of people have no clue and then tell me Spain should play like this and Germany should do that. Sport hipsters are annoying as hell.

Football is too boring to watch with any regularity. The World Cup is the biggest event and more interesting. Do big football fans get more excited about World Cup? Of course they do. So its totally legit that lesser football fans get more interested too. Its like the Olympics. Curling, wrestling, beach volleyball etc aren't interesting most days. Throw them all together and its a sport party worth watching. Only elitist put their nose in the air about new "fans" - who aren't really fans as much as bystanders - which is OK. Players, teams, sponsors, TV crews are ALL happy to have the new eyes upon them.

Football is hardly boring. Not bothered about what sport people watch just don't try and act like Bill Shankly when you clearly don't have a clue. I don't pretend to be an expert about baseball or American football. Seems like a waste of life watching something you usually have no time for.
PS. Think Argentina or Germany will win. England will not get far.

I think Argentina would wipe every team off the bill if Messi could play for them like he does for Barca. He hasn't managed it just yet.

Nope, if people are genuine fans of the sport then I am glad they are watching what they love. The people that have no interest in football and rugby etc getting excited for every major tournament are to me really odd. And the greatest player in the world is Steven Gerrard :P
