Sorry to hear you were so unwell yesterday, sounds very distressing for both of you.

Do they know why you had the fits? Do you think getting drunk might have brought them on?

Oh becky

You seem to have fits fairly regularly after drinking even when you've been well beforehand?

Drink probably doesn't help. I've had 4 fits in a week now and yesterday was especially bad. I wasn't actually medically stable enough to go to AAU but they had no choice but to take me because I'd been in A&E for over 4 hours. Not good at all, I think I'll have to try and get my neurology appointment brought forward or get my gp to increase meds again.

Thanks Katie x

I hope they can see you very soon to discuss meds etc.
Could this be motivation to be more careful with alcohol, or preferably to stay away from it at least until your are well medicated for your seizures?

That is probably a good idea. I am so sick of these seizures. Because I just end up in hospital and then feel like crap for the next couple of days. And then episodes like last night really scare me because it could have ended so badly if I wasn't in hospital overnight.

It must've been so incredibly scary and distressing for you and also for Chels. I am glad you at least had someone with you. <3

When it comes to meds and sleep and drinking, maybe try to remind yourself how important it is for you to not have seizures and how much you don't want them to happen.
I understand though it can be hard to adjust to a chronic illness, I've seen it with Conor and his diabetes. It is hard work and more than just a small lifestyle adjustment and people never can understand how hard it can be really.

Yeah, I'm glad she was there. Especially as she knows all my details and what's normal for me and what's not, which helped a great deal with my treatment!

I need to remind myself somehow. I also need to start taking more notice of my warning signs. I knew I felt weird quite early on, but I tend to convince myself I'll be ok and im just being paranoid or I just need to have a drink or something to eat and i'll be ok.

It can be hard to adjust.
Do you think you could ask in the FB group that you mentioned for ideas re reminders and how to adjust? I imagine lots of them struggled with that too and might have found things that work for them.

That's a good idea. Suppose the main thing to do is remember my meds, which is easier said than done with the 'poisoning issues' I get sometimes.

So I'll be home in like, an hour and a half xx

I'm going to say again- look into getting an epilepsy dog! They can lead you to safety before you have a fit because they pick up on the warnings signs.

I think I'm going to have a proper look into that now and call the letting agent to ask if the landlord would be ok with it.
We've kind of worked out that im more likely to have seizures if i'm over stimulated which is why the majority of them happen outside and at train stations etc. So a dog would be a good idea I think.

A dog to help sounds like a good idea but make sure you know what would happen to it if you ever needed to be in hospital or away. Just saying not to rush into something like that on impulse. Maybe stupid question but do they know what causes the seizures and could fix it, or is it just a matter of management through meds and such?

Please do not give me virtual hugs unless you are only using the hug function on threads. Thanks.

Yeah. It would be really good to have a dog, I guess they must have places for support dogs to go to because it's not going to be unusual for the owners to go into hospital with these kind of dogs.
Was also thinking because I'm still looking for jobs and if I got one I obviously wouldn't want to leave it in the house on its own for that long. And if I got a job I suppose I wouldn't be considered unwell enough for a dog anyway.

They don't know what's caused the epilepsy. It's quite unusual in that it suddenly came on last year with no family history or anything. It's pretty much a case of trial and error with meds and increase it until the seizures stop.

Becky I don't think working would prevent you from having a therapy dog particularly seizure trained. The dog would be allowed in public places including work and in shops. I'm sorry you've had such an ordeal. I hope you feel better soon.

Yes, all medical support dogs like epilepsy dogs, dogs for the blind and deaf etc are legally allowed in all places including restaurants, places of work, shops, public transport etc.

Basically they have to go everywhere with you in case of a seizure. And yes I expect if you ever went into hospital someone locally from the seizure dog charity would 'foster' your dog until you got back.

I don't think having a job would impact on the likelihood of a seizure dog. Plenty of people with those dogs have jobs. The point of the dog is to enable you to be more independent and live your life as 'normally' as possible, not to be shut away at home!
