Can't wait for this year's Eurovision though I do find it annoying that the neighboring countries especially in eastern europe always for for one another.
It's all about notcreating WWIII, no?
So she lights up a candle for hope to be found
Captive and blind by the darkness around
Each wave a promise, a new hope reborn
Sunrise consoles at the break of dawn
absolutely!
it's like a popularity contest of some sorts.
how do you guys choose who gets to sing for oyu at eurovision??
in germany we have a pre-eurovision live voting show where all 16 states send artists to the show and then we get to vote. i never watch that show so i usually just find out who sings for us at the night of the eurovision final.
@The One Who: exactly! there are like the big five right? the countries that never have to even go to the pre-elimination rounds because we pay for eurovision? idk about political reasons. sometimes it does seem like it but then like neutral countries win and it's just so random
In Ireland we just have a thing called Eurosong where five songs are performed and the public vote. Nt sure how they pick the five songs in the first place. But my friend is on his way over to perform with our song right now (well he could be there by now) I feel kind if bad cos I still haven't heard or seen it..I did wish him luck though as we've been in touch recently.
Ps. He's the blonde dancer, though I used to dance with the other guy too.

The UK used to do public vote/phone ins similar to the likes of X Factor. But then that gave us Scooch who were the best of a bad bunch, in my opinion!
The past few years they have just been chosen, presumably by the BBC or whoever puts forward the UK entry.
My friend is over there, he posted a pic of the stage and I was gonna post it here but he seems to have deleted it now. It looked awesome though! I wonder if he got into trouble or something for posting it.
Edit: it reappeared! He'd probably kill me for this but I really don't think there's much chance of him coming onto Ryl so I'm posting it anyway.

IT'S TOMORROW GUYS!
apparently the pre shows were yesterday and the day before but they don't show them on tv here because we qualify automatically. I don't even know who is singing for us but i can't wait it's just so much fun
I missed it but I saw all the photos on friends fbs who are over there supporting the guy I know. They're all gutted Ireland didn't get through. Bummer. Does anyone know if Germany are through? I looked up and liked their song. I voted for them last year too (my favourite band are German and my future husband lol)
Haha! I watched our entry once, and um yeah, it was rather bizarre with the Irish dancing, but then what do I know lol. Honestly I was left thinking wtf! (Don't tell my friend that though)
I love Germans! (I'm sure you can figure out why) I tried to learn German but I didn't get very far. I may give it another try though.
I just listened to the song on YouTube, so I didn't see the dancing or anything.
But it sounds hilarious, maybe I will go look for footage at some point.
Almost seems Ireland never recovered from Jedward. :P
Haha, yeah, I am well aware of that and your obsession with that awful, awful band. :P
My boyfriend had to learn German within a year and did a very intensive course and stuffz. It is a hard language to learn as a foreign language, German grammar is a lot more complicated than English grammar. In most cases English is a very straightforward language [well, that is if you ignore the discrepancy between spelling and pronunciation], German not so much.
Well, I brought my Irish guy back to Germany, so feel free to take that German dude and keep him in Ireland forever. :P
To be fair, Germans are hardly in a position to make fun of the Irish in that contest. We've mostly done pretty miserably.
I did like Lena winning in 2010 though, I quite liked her song. Can't believe 'twas that long ago already!
