Any Eurovision fans ;)

Anyone watch Eurovision?
I've been watching since 2009 or so and started watching all 3 shows a couple of years ago and it is totally hilarious. Apart from there being the occasional really cool act in there it's the best fun sitting there with my partner scoring all the acts on the most ridiculess criterion you could imagine- we score people on their moustaches, their ability to throw in a water feature or randome unicycle; the cool Russian grannies who idolised Beyonce. I love it!!! Anyone else??
I'm really getting quite excited about this year

Each wave a promise, a new hope reborn

I once saw a chart that documented the major political events in the UK plotted against the score we got in Eurovision, which was quite cool, but I can't for the life of me find it now!

In my opinion, Eurovision is one of the most ridiculous things that have ever graced our television screens, so naturally, we love it :P I don't like how silly it's gotten though; bring back ABBA!

No other sadness in the world would do

Lol remember WWI and II- lets not cause another war by not voting for ones neighbours and rivals right?? Seems to be the consensus with voting.
I loved 2010 with MaNGA for Turkey and Zdob Zdob. I LOVE how willing they are to make acts awesome- would you like a water feature? Unicycle? Monacle? Can we put a whole army up on stage like they did with TaTu?
I do think that it's soooo wrong that Israel get to go on but there is no Australian act- we're still technically part of the British Empire right?

Lol I text friends as well as watch with more friends. Eurovision party all the way!!!! Actually there have been a couple of acts which have just about been all-out porn. I love that they can get away with anything. I told my partner when we do the metal festival circuit in Europe we have to do Eurovision too!!

These guys are so corny and make me smile every time. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2a1Q_hpGLbs"]Hotel FM - Change (Romania) - Live - 2011 Eurovision Song Contest Final - YouTube[/ame]
Anyone else got a favourite?

I love the Eurovision and will again be having a drinking game/party thing to go along with it.

This entry has yet to be beaten in my eyes, he was robbed, utterly robbed!

Saturday 10th May for the main show, but the BBC normally show the previous two events as well, which decide who makes the finals. But I find they spoil the surprise and crazy factor of the main show.

Yeah, last year we were out at a pub when it was on and she spent the entire time on the phone to her sister, getting a running commentary on what was happening.

I'm fine! Totally fine. I don't know why it's coming out all loud and squeaky, 'cause really, I'm fine!

Who else is fine?!?!?

Iceland!! They surprise me every year. Although nothing compares with the tiny, tiny pants of the Greeks ;). Yeah, the politics in it are incredible- I totally agree. Sadly I also agree with you about Spain- although I did enjoy the stage invasion (and that actual act in fact) in 2010

I probably wouldn't watch it, but I love the cheese and I love Eurovision parties.
I also liked how embarrassed all my Ukrainian friends were by Verka Serduchka.
I've just moved to a new place though and don't have many friends yet so not sure I'll be able to have a Eurovision party this year :'(

Ah, that sucks. Can you have a party by proxy?
I ended up working the night of the finals and messaging people over some of the awesomely ridiculess acts

I LOOOOOVE EUROVISION!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have a party every year and we make bets on who the first three places will be and it's awesome because you always vote for your favorites which is most likely NOT who is going to win. It's so great to just watch with friends and love about all the weird entries. Last year Greece absolutely stole the show for me and they didn't even win I AM SO MAD. 'alcohol is free'. now that's some quality music right there hahahah. C
Can't wait for this year's Eurovision though I do find it annoying that the neighboring countries especially in eastern europe always for for one another.

(My emphasis)

The UK are at that business as well. We are in cahoots with Ireland and Malta to name two that normally give us some points, for no fathomable reason other than tradition (with Malta being quite British) or neighbourly banter. Heck, let's be honest, if the UK (BBC) didn't pay a substantial proportion of the EBC's budget, the UK wouldn't be in the final most years! And what do we get for that money? One Saturday evening of lovable tosh and the January Vienna concerts!

I'm sure if you go through every single country's history there will be evidence of political voting. Perhaps it's more obvious with the eastern ones because they are former Bloc countries and their ties are that bit closer?
