Hi, newly diagnosed with personality disorder.
Hello just some advice really please,I have been diagnosed with personality disorder I'm really struggling to cope with the diagnosis.
I'm currently on a section 3, but have been refusing all treatment, I have difficulty taking the medication because the ocd is really bad and controls lots of my life. I'm currently still suicidal and feel worse than ever. I'm being discharged this Monday. I'm just at a loss what to do. The mental health unit doesn't know how to treat anorexia or ocd, but I'm not at a critical weigh to go to a specialist ed clinic. Everything just feels so overwhelming. No treatment options apart from medications have been discussed. I'm upset that I feel worse now than when I came in and they are sending me home to get on with it. I though that if I can't take the medication because my ocd is telling me not to, then I thought they could force me to take it, but the dr said they can't. If anyone has got any advice I would really appreciate it. Ps the drug they prescribed was lamotrogine.
Thank you x

I don't know where you're from and I don't know the health
system of where you are from.
I'm from Germany and if someone gets sectioned here and they want to stay longer ip, then they can stay longer. Plus: if someone is on a section and they agreed to take medication then they are always watched while taking it and they have to open their mouth so they can see that they actually swallowed it. Maybe you could ask if someone could do that for you?
Is there a possibility of staying ip longer? In the hosp where I was, people always got to talk to psychologists when they decided that they want to stay longer, and when they asked for a psychologist.

Hello thank you for the replies. I haven't heard of the 117 aftercare, what does that involve. They just said I'm getting discharged that's it. No follow up no therapy whatsoever. I feel like I have now been diagnosed and just left to deal with it. I'm still suicidal and just can't seem to control the highs and lows, but got told that I'm capable of making the decision what to do. I wanted to be a nurse and I have just screwed up my life. Does it get easier living with bpd.

Hey sorry to hear that's what you're going through *hugs* getting a diagnosis can be extremely confronting, but things will get better with the right support. Do you have a psych that you see or another professional you can speak to once you're discharged? If you aren't already seeing someone I would ask to be referred to someone through the hospital - explain how unwell you're feeling and that you will require ongoing support. Hope it all works out for you:)

With therapy, it doesn't necessarily get easier, but you learn to manage it better and take control of your illness rather than being at it's mercy 24/7.

For me it became easier, and now I don't even fit all the criteria anymore.
