How do you use chopsticks?

I recently recieved an USA and UK takeout box from Cybercandy. It came with two pairs of chopsticks. Since I have been only once to a Chinese restaurant (and had to eat with a spoon), I have no clue how to use chopsticks. So any pointers? (There was no instructions in the box.)

Here is a picture of the USA and UK take out boxes.

I kind of use my ring finger and base of my thumb to hold the lower chopstick, and then sort of use my first two fingers and tip of my thumb to move the upper chopstick. I think I may have described that a little clumsily, but there are loads of how to videos on youtube if you fancy a look :)

If you can grab food and move it to your mouth with chopsticks, any way of holding them works. However, this is the correct way to hold them, but not even all Asians hold them this way.

Edit: Practice using them with potato chips. I like to use chopsticks to eat cheetos because it keeps my fingers clean. Give it a try!

Thanks everyone. I suspect that I will get frustrated and eat the sweets with my fingers!

Pointless post but I fail at using chopsticks

I'm going to give this a try. I've never thought of doing it before but I really don't like getting crisp bits on my fingers (I'm a bit funny like that) so this seems like a good solution :)

Cuz we all spend half our time running around, f*cked out of our minds
And we spend the other half sleeping at desks and praying just to get back...

While it may seem easier at first to hold the chopsticks near their tips, holding them further back means that they are closer to parallel, which helps to scoop food like rice. You'll also be able to pick up larger pieces of food.

Anyone ever tried to pick up a dim sum dumpling with chopsticks? They stick and come apart. Or, it did with me! My Korean friend had a good laugh and asked for a fork for me!

Whilst you are learning how to use them put an elastic band around the wider ends. It makes it easier.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I tried the other day and I think I managed ok, though the sweets were disgusting!
