New GP, First appointment and Starting Uni?

Hi all, i have been referred to mental health by my GP and am awaiting an appointment. I have been to see the nurse and the psych before but when i got there they said it wasn't worth them helping as i was moving from a village to the nearest city so i've had to go through the whole thing again with a new team. An hour of my time wasted right there

I am considering going private as i dont want to be messed about again. I am going back to college in September too so would prefer if they didn't waste any time this time round :S

So i Can anyone tell me the ins and outs of their first app? What did they ask? what were you like during the appointment? What was the outcome, like, did they put you on meds or refer you on?

And how long did it take?

Sorry for all the Q's i really hate not knowing.

I, once regretably, had a private appointment with a consultant psychiatrist.

The cost was £200 + for about an hour.

I only went once and all they did was do a mental state examination and history taking.

I went to get a second opinion on my diagnosis - waste of time as the doctor just sat on the fence.

If you go private the prescription will also be private and chemists charges are high than nhs considerably.

It does take a while for things to get processed, so if you're moving soon, it's worth waiting for the move, if you can. If you're very unwell right now, your referral would go through faster, and it's worth doing it now, but otherwise, you might not get much out of doing it now.

Private is very expensive and the costs add up, depending on who you see; psych, GP, prescriptions, therapists. Some people just see a therapist/counsellor privately, which is less expensive and then see their GP on NHS, etc.

It's probably going to be very similar this time, as last time; just questions on your history, assessing your risk level. Depending on you, it might take a few appointments to assess. Going on medication is more likely than not if you're up for it; but you can always say no. How long it takes depends on your risk level and your area; I think I've always been seen in under six weeks, but it's a good area here, and if you're not as urgent, or it's a less equipped area, then it can be much longer.

It doesn't matter where you come from; it matters where you go.
No-one gets remembered for the things they didn't do.
We won't all be here this time next year,
so while you can take a picture of us.
We're definitely going to hell,
but we'll have all the best stories to tell.
