I dont think you can feed from just one boob sam.
Do they offer breast feeding workshops where you are? I went to one and it was awesome!

I'm fine! Totally fine. I don't know why it's coming out all loud and squeaky, 'cause really, I'm fine!

Who else is fine?!?!?

Yeah I went to them and had a BF consultant after and she said the latch was fine on each side but I know one side never felt right and the pain never subsided.

how long did you do it for?

I'm sure you tried everything before, but there are so many different positions for breastfeeding.

My mum has had 5 kids, and she breast fed all of us, with the last one, she was barked at by a midwife for not breast feeding right, even though it was working for my mum and she knew what she was doing!

I lasted 3 weeks but by that time I was in tears every feed from the pain. I tried lots of positions but none helped. One side was just about manageable and I think if they'd both been like that I'd have managed but the smaller side was excruciating.

Sam the pain only went away for me around week 6. I saw loads of people and everyone said her latch was fine and I was just sensitive but then one day it just got better. It still hurts occasionally when she clamps down but I'm glad I stuck it out. Im not sure if shape affects it but I know Poppy changed my shape on one side and since it changed she does seem to latch better

At my antenatal class, someone mentioned nipple shields, they were told their nipple was the wrong shape to bf properly. I think you can buy them at mothercare. I think I've started leaking a little, when I wake up in the morning it's like I have a skin/film on my nipples that has appeared overnight

My last scan went well, and I don't have to have any more scans =D work is getting more difficult though, I'm so glad I only have 3 weeks left! I'm counting down the days already!!

Banana_bear: my LO had reflux which was quiet severer and he lost weight which he has never got back up to the same centile. We had to see a consultant at the hospital for ultrasounds of his stomach and tests. So I can understand feeling like a bad mum but you really arnt it's very common and took me ages to get him diagnosed he was 5 months when we found out so were advised to put him on solid food early. But there is loads of stuff they can try before that. You did nothing wrong and it will probably all be sorted out when he starts solids.

Sam, you can absolutely feed a baby from one breast. Mothers who have had mastectomies etc do it.

Try different positions eg. rugby hold, make sure you ask for help in the first few days from lots of people, as each midwife/LC might have a different idea that helps. Nipple shields may be an option, but discuss this with a lactation consultant first. Do you have Raynaud's or anything like that?

Even as the stone of the fruit must break
that its heart may stand in the sun,
so must you know pain.

There are only two ways in which one can live their life. One is as though nothing is a miracle, the other is as though everything is.

I wasn't strong enough to last till 6 weeks. I guess I gave up too soon. I tried nipple shields but they didn't fit my smaller one properly so it hurt just as much and I tried different holds. Like I said the HV and BF consultant just said the latch was right.

I have hyper mobility but that doesn't affect anything other than my ability to get local anaesthetic.

I'm just weak. Ha.

You aren't weak Sam I almost stopped so many times it is only because I had Peter supporting me to carry on that I did. It is had but if you can try and stick it out as long as possible then hopefully this time it might get better before it gets too much. I found when I was struggling it really helped to just focus on feeding and worry about everything else later. Also try to keep distracted a bit while you feed so you don't concentrate on the pain. I did and often still do hold poppy in one arm with a breastfeeding pillow under her supporting all her weight so my arm is just keeping her in position then I use my free arm to play games on my laptop. I have done this day and night for 7 weeks and it has helped loads

Try the la leche league the midwies and health visitor were next to uuseless and had never heard of the rugby hold. My left side neither could latch to, it lead to mastitis (despite expressing from that side) ella only latched to my right side but only for a few secs at a time. Took 7 months of constant pestering for someone to acknowledge her tongue was causing problems. Wales sucks.

It's all part of being a parent. It's so hard, sometimes it's difficult to see the good bits. At one point I told my friend I didn't love my kids. They are so destructive (creative?) And ruin everything and I get tired of this way of life.

I don't think I'd manage more than I did last time. Will let him get the colostrum though and a few days of goodness.

Becky Elliot was scared of grass till a few months ago. Think it's just a new textures thing.

I don't think this baby is going to get my love like Elliot. I feel bad I don't care about him enough.

Beckie, Faith was scared of grass at that age...She got used to it though. New textures and all that.

yeah, must be quite strange for babies and all these new things!

She kept shouting at the grass, and shouted if her beaker or toys touched it! It was quite entertaining :P

I keep getting crampy pains radiating from my lower stomach round my side to my back. It's mostly on the left hand side. Would stretching pains be one sided and occur on my back as well? Baby has spun I think because today he feels like he's poking me in all my internal organs. Haha
