In this type of situation police have to do what they have to in order to protect their lives and the lives of citizens, I'm honestly amazed that they managed to get him alive. Regardless, it sounded as if you were suggesting that Boston Police would engage in vigilante behavior and that is hardly the case.

I think he may have been too injured to get away again.Glad he was caught, I was listening to it live online where someones scanner was picking up the police radios...it was interesting to listen to.

I had been reading the kid's twitter for about an hour when they located him in the boat. It was the older brother who was the instigator of all this. As seems to be typical of things like this the authorities were on to him a long time ago. His mother says the authorities in US had been talking to her for years because they were worried about his jihad related activities and associations. So people pay billions of dollars for these law enforcement organizations and are told all the time the gov needs to read their emails etc to "keep us safe" yet when they find a live wire (who could have been deported after domestic violence arrests) they just fall through the cracks. I am also not impressed with the Boston Police. For years all I see are commercials that say "If You See Something Say Something" and urging people to report suspicious packages etc. So here you had a major event with police, special forces crawling all over the place and these guys can put backpacks down and walk away from them near the finish line. Then they order the whole town to stay indoors while they try to catch one 19 year old kid with hundreds of cops dressed-up like special forces with dozens of military vehicles, helicopters, bomb squads, SWAT teams etc. The message they sent was that 2 guys with a little training can bring a major city to a stand still for a week

Seems its not quite over - the bombers were part of a 12 man cell. They are looking for other guys now. Curiously the UK media follows developments in these kinds of stories than US media does.

"Boston bombers: FBI hunting 12-strong terrorist “sleeper cell” linked to brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar"

I'm not a fan of the Mirror.

Quote:
He is under armed guard at the Beth Israel Deaconess Memorial Hospital, where many of the bomb victims are also being treated - he is heavily sedated and has a breathing tube in his throat.

The High-Value Detainee Interrogation Group - a multi-security agency unit specialising in questioning terror suspects - are waiting to question him in the hope he will give some clue as to his motive and whether the pair had outside help.

But he has not yet been able to speak and Boston's Mayor Tom Menino told ABC News on Sunday: "We don't know if we'll ever be able to question the individual."
^This is frustrating.

Quote:
Mr Menino said evidence indicated that the accused pair had acted alone, but that the elder of the two, 26-year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev, had "brainwashed his younger brother" into carrying out the attack.
No mention of any other possible involvement on the BBC. But it does seem to make sense I guess.

The detonation devices are being deemed too sophisticated for just a couple of "ham and egg" guys to slap together. It makes sense this event is part of a cell because FBI etc have been forced to lay off by the administration. Groups have been pouring over the border with help from Chavez who turned Venezuela into a base for Hezbollah. All these kids of groups will be going off soon. That will mean UK/Europe too. Documents were found with OBL showing that people were told to get jobs in power plants and to hit "pride parades" and such. As things in Mid East heat up all the cells will start to act up. That should be before the summer is over.

"A source close to the investigation said: "We have no doubt the brothers were not acting alone. The devices used to detonate the two bombs were highly sophisticated and not the kind of thing people learn from Google.

"They were too advanced. Someone gave the brothers the skills and it is now our job to find out just who they were. Agents think the sleeper cell has up to a dozen members and has been waiting several years for their day to come."

More than 1,000 FBI agents have been assigned to track down the cell. A specialist team of CIA and FBI interrogators is on hand at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre in Boston, waiting to question Dzhokhar."

Yes. He also killed his brother but that was probably an accident. He saw 6 or so police gathered around his brother and drove his SUV into the crowd - running over his brother.

But... a handgun wouldn't have helped. The police have handguns. You can't fight fire with fire; and you can't shoot a terrorist until it's already too late.

I feel sorry for the little brother, because he does look so little, it's hard to imagine him as more than a kid caught up in something over his head.

The brothers were US citizens. They had right to remain.

One was (the youngest) and one wasn't. He was denied after a domestic violence incident. He could have been deported for that as well.
