quick scar fade?
i've got some scars on my arm that i really really want to fade by may.
they're around maybe a month old, and weren't too awfully deep to begin with. right now they're a faded purple/red color. most of them don't really have any texture, not bumpy or the alternative, etc.
my aunt is coming into town and it would really ruin me if she saw what i've done to myself.. is there any possible way to get my scars to fade at all in such a short amount of time?
thanks!! xxxx

Unfortunately I don't think there is anything that can fade them quickly. You could try a cream called dermablend if they are fairly flat in appearance, I've heard good stuff about it. For fading them over a period of time, bio oil is meant to be quite good, but it takes a while.

Hi, I know this isnt what you want to hear but I have tried cheap creams and expensive creams and neither give instant results...I tried dermatex (sp), its supposed to be excellent, but i gave it three months of 3 times a day applications, and to be honest i got fed up with it and gave up.
Almost 6 months later my old scars are barely noticeable. It could be my skin type, it could be the cheap cream, or the inbetween priced cream, or the expensive cream.
Its a minefield out there. They are all going to sing the praises of their own products....
Would you rather pay at least £30 for a small tube of cream and not have it work as quick as you wanted? or buy cocoa butter lotion...or any lotion for that matter.
Maybe I heal well...but mother nature will heal better than anything I have found in the shops x

Unfortunately scare don't fade as quickly as we'd all like, even with creams. I find using moisturizer regularly helps - I specifically use Vaseline Deep Conditioning Body Lotion. I also use Diprobase cream which you can get prescribed by your GP.
If you want to hide them quickly then I'd suggest covering them up.

thanks for all the feedback. i've found some skin therapy oil my mom bought me a while back for scars. all i really want is to be able to flash my arm without anyone noticing, and while they are already faint, i don't think i can get to my goal in time. my aunt's asked me if i cut myself before and that's why wearing sleeves would be weird. maybe i can cover them up with makeup? i'm not sure. but thank you again for your help.

Are you based in the UK? If you are, you can ask your GP to refer you for makeup to cover the scarring, means it's free which is a plus since buying it yourself is veeeeeery pricey.
I've been using a derma-roller on my scars and have seen a really big difference, but to be honest, it does take time :(
Lotion-wise, bio-oil is the best or cocoa-butter (you'll smell like chocolate! ^^) I've heard rubbing fresh lemon on your scars daily bleaches the colour out of them, and I tried this but it just made my skin incredibly itchy.
And also rubbing your scars often is supposed to help too... so if you're just sitting watching TV or something it might be an idea to just massage them a bit.
Hope you find something that works, I think the best thing is to just choose a light regime and stick to it, be gentle on your scars and in time they'll fade :) xxx

I've read in numerous places- I'm not a doctor so this could be wrong of course- that new studies have shown its not what you put on the scar that matters s'far as ointments and lotions go; its the act of massaging that makes a difference. There was one scar my friend really wanted me to treat, and I didn't want to spend a bunch of money so I researched and I ended up just massaging with vaseline(petroleum jelly), which did help it fade. Whatever you do, it probably won't fade totally by May but if you fade it some and then use makeup to conceal whats left...
Also, exposing scars to much sunlight makes them stand out. I learned that the hard way after a day at the beach.
