Missing a depot injection

Just wondered if anyone knew what effects would happen if I missed a depot injection of Clopixol?

ie. will I get awful side effects after 3,4,5,6,7 days???? or will it be ok???

thanks

You will get withdrawal yes. To what degree is hard to say as it depends on the person.
You prob better off taking to your team about tapering down on the dose that why you will be more in control of the withdrawal symptoms you do get.

You should really talk to your dr/cpn before deciding to stop your meds. Doing it by myself in the past has landed me in hospital and not just for mental side affects but when i stopped one med abruptly I got so dizzy that I fell down the stairs! Just be careful

I agree with the others it is best always to talk to your doctor before deciding to just stop a medication as sometimes they can have horrible side effects. Is there some reason why you are thinking about/have missed your depot?

I'm going away & the day I go away I'm due an injection. I know they could do it the day before as they've done that in the past.
I just wondered if I missed it what would happen. Would I get sick? Headaches? Etc..
I don't really like the depot. I've had problems with the nurse giving it to me at my GP surgery. She's given me the wrong dose once & several times the needle has come away from the syringe when she's actually giving me the injection so she's had to give me the rest of the injection in the other buttock. It's not exactly left me feeling good about depots.
Because of this I have decided to have my depot at the CMHT. That also is unpleasant & further away from home & there's a queuing system rather than actual appt.
I've had my depot reduced at my request. Am only on 300mg Clopixol now. But I would like to come off it altogether.
I've been on meds for 15 years & I am tired of it all.

It is hard to tell you exactly what would happen as everyone is different and experiences side effects in different ways. It could affect you physically or it could affect you mentally. So it is always best to talk to your doctor about it. If you don't like the depot perhaps you could talk to your doctor about an alternative such as taking pills? This may be an option but again you would have to discuss it with your doctor. It is probably best if you get the depot before you go away as it would be a shame to ruin your holiday by feeling unwell. Take care

I am on Clopixol and have missed an depot on more than one occasion.

It depends tbh. For example over Christmas I went a month between injections due to the fact I couldnt meet with my CPN due to the fact I was at parents house (my CMHT/CPN are in a different county to my parents) and also because she was on annual leave. I actually suffered no side effects and my voices got no worse.

However there have been times when I have suffered. I didnt suffer any side effects apart from slightly increased voices. You have to remember that the Clopixol stays in your system a lot longer than tablets - when I was refusing meds I was told by my psych that it would take 6 months for it to get out of my system completely. Whereas with tablets, you are looking at weeks rather than months.

So in reality one missed dose means that the meds will have some effect, it wont be as strong. That's why you have the injections every few weeks (I am currently trialling every 3 weeks, but for the past 21 months I have been on every 2 weeks), or in some cases, every week in order to top up the dose and therefore be effective.
