I'm spending Christmas in hospital this year. I'm not looking forward to it at all. It's my nephews first Christmas and I'm going to miss it. Knowing that hurts so much. Is anyone else spending Christmas in hospital, if so how are you going to keep yourself occupied?
When life gets you down do you know what you've gotta do?
I'm not in hospital this Christmas *touch wood* but I spent the last three Christmas's in hospital which as you will know, sucks.
Can anybody pop in and visit you, even if it's for a short while?
I tried to keep as busy as I could by talking with other patients (who were well enough to talk) and also with staff members. I found that even staff who perhaps weren't talkative throughout most the year, made a big effort on Christmas day. It was quite a good atmosphere considering the situation.
I also kept busy if I was alone with music, reading and puzzles etc. Do you always have your phone on you? I didn't but if you do that's a good way to keep connected as you can call/text people.
I did find the hardest evening of all was Christmas Eve so please try and take care of yourself tonight. It felt really lonely imagining everyone else's excitement and knowing I was stuck there. Could you do something to pamper yourself tonight, like a nice bath/shower as much as it can be on the ward? Get in to clean pj's etc. Anything to keep you feeling as happy as possible.
Not this year, but I've spent the last 6-7 Christmases in hospital, one was spent on 1-1 obs.
Usually, there is something special going on on the ward, if not, there are usually some good films on tv.
Could your family come and see you?
Sorry you're spending Christmas in hospital. I can relate as well because im missing my daughters first Christmas, how old is your nephew? What's getting me through this year is that my daughter is too young to remember Christmas this year, and hopefully I'll get to spend next Christmas with her when she's old enough to appreciate Christmas, depending on how old your nephew is, would it help to think forward to next year?
*hugs*
I'm fine! Totally fine. I don't know why it's coming out all loud and squeaky, 'cause really, I'm fine!
My parents are coming to visit Boxing Day afternoon so that will be nice. My nephew is 10 months old so probably too young to understand that it's Christmas but I still feel bad for missing his first Christmas.
We don't usually get our mobiles until the evening but I think they are being flexible over the Christmas period.
We aren't allowed into our rooms until 9PM over the Christmas period.

I'm sorry to hear you are. I spent last Christmas on 1-1 obs which was horrible, being honest.
But! It has to be said, although it was the least favourites of my Christmases, it was quite fun in parts! I spent the day playing pictionary with staff, singing Christmas songs, dressing people up in tinsel/baubles.. To say I was on 1:1 obs, and where I was.. It was a laugh. There was only me and 2 other patients in over Christmas, everyone else had gone on leave. The ward had a Christmas buffet and all the staff made an effort to make the day enjoyable.
I know it's not nice, but it won't be quite as bad as you think. There's plenty of Christmas movies on tv etc to keep you occupied to. Just think that next Christmas will be ten times better hun. I hope tomorrow is as good as it can be. xx
I know its awful ive spent two christmases in hospital. We had parties and things going on, but then again that was a child and adolescent ward. Im not sure if your in adult or not but anyway. Like Becky said there are going to be xmas movies on all day =) if all else fails. xxx
And if your thoughts should turn to death, you gotta stub them out like a cigarette..
I've never spent Christmas in hospital but really feel for you and so wanted to wish you the best with it. I hope you are able to get through okay and that you enjoy time with your family on Boxing Day.
i'm spending christmas in medical hospital, so not quite the same but i wanted to send my sympathy and let you know you're not completely alone. i plan to sleep and watch **** telly. i hope it's better than you think

Hello all, thank you for replying. I hope you've all had a lovely Christmas day.
Well my day was pretty crap tbh. One member of staff made the day quite horrible. She wouldn't allow us our phones until 4PM, she took one of my presents away from me and she wouldn't let the other girls out for a smoke after dinner. Her attitude stinks. She talks to us like we're a piece of **** on her shoe. All the girls here are pretty pissed off with her.

Awww that sucks and my sympathies go with everyone spending Christmas in hospital.
I havent spent Christmas in hospital, but I did spend my birthday in hospital, so I can relate to it.
