I'm thick skinned.

Argh but seriously the amount of spam in GC is starting to actually really piss me off.....I go to read a new post in a thread only to find it's 4 or 5 posts of spam - not even different spam usually just the same **** repeated. Gah!

Griddlebone I think it is possible to set spambuster mods up so they can't see sections you don't want them to see - I think you do it in the admin control thing - set the group then I think you can mark out somewhere what they can see and what they can't

*disclaimer*

I in no way intended to sound like I was ungrateful for you lovely Moddlies and you power and know you get the shiity end of the poo stick! And entirely not your fault that we people who get up when you are going to bed have people spamming then! You all have lives and other things to beside sitting on RYL 24/7 deleting spam! =) That would just be cruel.

And I'm not volunteering to be a mod and know its a big deal to be made one with all the power and horrible things directed at you all.

But for the record you guys are doing an amazing job dealing with all the spamming retards!

Stupid question incoming:

Harley is around (sometimes), as his Tony (who, if nothing else could suggest to him that he do something). Harley is probably the only one who can secure the site a bit better so that the spam would decrease. Bug him enough until he does something? Or finally gives up on the site and hands it over to someone else?

Is it bad that I hadn't noticed the spam until SavingGace pointed it out to me....

I just never click threads with titles that don't make sense.

You start life with a clean slate. Then you begin to make your mark. You face decisions, make choices. You keep moving forward. But sooner or later there comes a time where you look back over where you have been and wonder who you really are.

They are also posting in pre-made legit threads, so it looks like real people have commented on threads you've commented in, and you get all excited to see who's offended this time by what you've written (lol) and you find, to your rage, that a spambot has just filled a whole page with like 4 or 5 repeated chunks of bullshit. Grr.

Perhaps PM Tony and see if he can talk to Harley? Since Tony is often around GC lately.

Currently 21/35 threads on page one of the general forum are spam. I hope Harley is successful.

Unfortunately XRumer (the software being used to post the spam) is really annoying to try and block. It's now able to defeat things like CAPTCHA and simple questions like What colour is the sky? Allowing it to continue registering accounts and spamming. So many technical methods are ineffective.

Another forum I moderate on we've resorted to IP blocking everyone from outside the UK, however it only lasted a couple of days before the spammer configured a British proxy in order to keep posting. It's absolutely infuriating and I feel sorry for the Mods and Harley because I know from personal experience how difficult it is to keep up with the sheer volume of crap that's being posted.

One method could be to ban any newly registered members with less than 15 posts from posting threads containing links, or make it so they enter a pre-moderation queue. whilst it wont stop the spam completely it would slow it down somewhat.

They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with.
Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I have seen sites with newbie forums that are like "sandboxes" in that new members can only post in that forum until they get a post count up. All I know is there are gobs of new accounts this week and the spammy apocalypse is really intensifying.

Dunno if it was you or someone else, but the 20-some posts in general seem to have been taken care of. Thanks! :)
