^My cat understands "not allowed" (or, translated equivalent thereof). He always looks really guilty/scared when caught red-handed doing something he's not supposed to.

He also knows every single possible word and word combination that is to do with food. It's now impossible to discuss food consumption plans with family members without him appearing out of nowhere going "mrrriaw?!"

My first cat was more fearful of people than wanting to rule everyone, I was "her human" and she tended to prefer to keep away from most other people. She died in 2008.

My previous cat (who was rehomed) absolutely adored people but only semi-understood "no", he was the best cat I have ever known, he'd cuddle up to anyone who'd give him food and adored fuss. He didn't ever get the idea he's a cat, he always behaved more like a dog.

My family thinks my cat is half dog, partly cause we picked him up on the street, partly because well, he's like a dog. My mum is pretty stern with him in terms of tone of voice. When we first got him, we tried the "water spray" thing, turns out he loves water -.-

One thing he is terrified of, though, is newspapers. Roll up a newspaper and tap/hit your cat's nose when he gets too close to your laptop and say "NO" (don't need to give him a concussion, a tap is generally enough). Or a slipper. My cat is scared of raised slippers too xD They tend to get the message pretty quickly.

oh and also cats sense fear and inferiority/superiority you need to make it clear you're the boss in the way you act around your cat. Sounds harsh but it's the only way to stop these adorable furballs from taking over our brains haha.

He's a pretty well behaved cat/dog now <3

I chose my life and you left,

I've taught my cat how to sit,lay down, give paw and speak. It took about 2 months before he mastered the tricks.

Yeah we don't need a lead, he just follows. He followed my dad to work (as in he sat on the roof of the car, went up the stairs, into the office and my dad didn't notice until the cat decided it was nap time on his client's knees) once. And if I go for a walk in the forest he comes with <3

That's awesome! My cat will follow me around pretty often. However, if outside, he's easily distractable by smells, etc.

It's simple, give in to the fact that cat's are just too awesome to tell what to do. Mine do the same thing and it drives me wild.

the cats i grew up with were really respectful.

the two we have now are a nightmare but cute at the same time.

Sassy will walk on anything and try to steal food and drinks (including wine) out of your hand. Dexter will walk all over my laptop and i tell him off but he gives me such a cute look (that look that puss in boots from shrek does) and i just cant help but cuddle him. He talks to me constantly too.

we do have a spray bottle for when they start getting a little OTT when playing though. only have to show it to them now and they glare at it before strutting off somewhere else.
They also now what 'NO!' and the pointy finger means and glare at you when you do it before buggering off.

Cats are great though, they have my dog under the thumb even though she has been here longer and is alot older!

My cats are amazing, my best friends. They are good, but have their moments lol.
One of them can open doors, so when we go to bed, we have to put a box in front of the door so he doesnt come in and wake us. He also loves watching the fish and he plays fetch. He is the happiest cat in the world :)
The other one is cross with a jaguar i think, he his huge and muscular all black cat. They both only drink water out of a plastic cup in the bathroom too, which I find a little strange lol.
I havent really taught them to not go on things etc, they are indoor cats so no use telling them to get off things like the kitchen sides (obviously we clean the sides everytime we make food lol). If I catch them doing something they shouldn't I will shout at them, but I dont get mad with them. Its their house too.
I have one of them tattooed on my arm too :)

My cat has no respect for paperwork...as soon as i pop it down for a second she sits on it and crumples it. She doesnt bother with the computer - think she values her life too much.

One of mine walked across my laptop keyboard once and turned the screen upside down, I had no clue how to fix it and had to search for help on the internet on my phone, I really thought he had broke my laptop for good! Somehow he had got into graphics properties and flipped the screen 180 degrees, still dont know how he managed it, but I never let him near the laptop now
