How do you know if a counselor is the right option?

Hi! I'm new to this site. idk how to get help for this. I feel like it's different for everyone. I've always thought about seeing a counselor, but idk if that's the right thing to do. I feel like I should know better and should just get over this, but that's more scary to me than actually doing it. I know I can't keep doing this forever. I've talked to 2 people about it that I trusted, but I feel like they don't really understand it, even though they are doing all they can to help. How do you know what to do to get help? :/

Hi, welcome to the site!

Personally, I think that if you've played with the idea of seeing a counselor, and you feel like no one understands enough to help, you should go see one. If you don't like your counselor, you can always get a different one and if you don't like any part of having a counselor, you can always stop going, but if you never go, then you don't know if they can help you or not.

I would urge you to see one and at least give it a chance. You have nothing to lose by it. And lots of people feel like they should be able to get over their problems by yourself, but that can be a lot harder said than done, if not impossible. Reaching out for help does not mean that you are weak, sometimes reaching out is the bravest thing a person can do.

I hope that helps and I hope you can find the help you need. Hugs :)

Counsellors can be great, if your considering one thats a great idea, they are there to talk and offer support where needed. You just need to find one your comfortable with and feel you can talk to freely to

Its funny how people can change...
