How to get a counsellor?

Hi, anyone know how to get a counsellor that I dont have to go to my gp about? I would go to my gp but they referred me last time it was over 6 months wait and they only have the one counsellor that made me feel so inferior to her and feel so childish, I was made to remember little chloe inside my tummy who wants to get out... it did not help in the slightest...

Do you think you could do some searching online or on your own for a counselor? Or, do you know anyone else who has a counselor who could perhaps give you a suggestion? That's how I was referred both times I've been in therapy (by others who had a counselor they liked).

Hope you can find someone<3 Good luck.

Yellow Pages probably lists them.
There are some charities that have a counseling service which only asks for donation.

On this link, you can search via your postcode for counsellors who offer a free service for those on a low income: https://www.counselling.ltd.uk/postcode/

If your in the uk how old are you? Connexions offer counsellors if you are young enough.

What about your local mind mine offers counsellors on a sliding scale so you pay dependent on your earnings.

Otherwise go through the bacp website as this I'd the professional registration counsellors need and they list them so you should get a genuine counsellor and you can search by issues or areas or cost!

If you aren't in the uk then I'm not so sure but maybe you could say where you are?

There are charities that offer, if not free counselling, then counselling that is at a reduced rate. Sliding scale depending on your income. Get connected website will help you search for charities in your area.

Take Care x

Thanks guys, I cant use connexions as I'm too old to use it but I have contacted my local mind. I hadnt actually thought of them because last time I looked my local one was too far away for me to travel. Theyve opened a new centre closer to me which I can get to easier :) so thank you for all the thoughts :)

I don't know if there is one in your area, or how old you are but... I'm too old for Connexions, but they have a 'next step' one in some places called 'SHARE'... they go up to 25 (inclusive, I am nearly 25). I'm currently being referred for a mentor, they do counselling too but I already have a lot of therapy and groups from the mental health team so I'm just getting the mentor.

Can your GP not refer you for an assesment at your local community mental health team-- I'm presuming the counsellor you saw was connected to the surgery?
