random questions maybe idk..

Ok these might seem stupid questions but I don't care. I've asked someone them before but they couldn't answer it...

What's after shave or the point of it? I understand its name is 'after shave' but yea.

What's the point of cologne? Isn't that what deoderant is for? So you don't smell bad..... and is body spray deoderant? I need to know this. Like idk...

I know its prefrence but is there really a point to growing out facial hair, like beards or moustaches..? Is it so men can look more manly or what? I can't tolerate facial hair so j/w.

Why do people put 'x' after their posts on here?

I have more stupid questions but I can't think of them right now I'm sleepy.

After shave is used for moisturising the skin after shaving. In the past they also contained alcohol and other formulas for healing cuts or broken skin. Since blades are much better nowadays I don't know if those ingredients are still as common in after shaves.

I know of two purposes for men's cologne:
1. To be a "backup" in case deodorant is not a successful as anticipated.
2. A man might become recognisable for a certain fragrance, kind of like a signature smell. This is the reason why I wear cologne at fancy parties/ occasions.

I know its prefrence but is there really a point to growing out facial hair, like beards or moustaches..? Is it so men can look more manly or what? I can't tolerate facial hair so j/w.
Sophistication, person preference? Google is a good resource to use.

Why do people put 'x' after their posts on here?
Because it marks the spot.

What Asura said.

My view on it is it is same principle as perfume but many men wouldn't wear anything branded as perfume because that's too 'girly' (the male mind is a strange thing) so they give it a different name.

X means the same here as it does everywhere else, it's kisses. Although I prefer Asura's explanation ;-p

Aftershave also opens up the pores (or closes the pores, I forget which) after you've shaved which is apparently good.

Deodorant and body spray are the same things, but they aren't anti-perspirant (A-P stops you sweating, deo and body spray just mask the smell).

Cologne/Aftershave tends to be used rather than deodorant because it's a nicer smell and lasts an awful lot longer on your body (plus deodorant kinda makes people smell like 14-year-old boys).

People have different preferences on facial hair, just as they've got different preferences on length of hair and style of clothes. It's just about finding something that works for you and for your style.

Yeah aftershave's supposed to be good for your skin and smell nice after shaving

Cologne would be the more traditional scented splash for men to use in the place of women's perfume deodorant's and body sprays being a more recent thing, but yeah they generally do the same, I think cologne is posher so more likely to be used to show off or something

The facial hair thing, some guys use it to look older, I know a couple of baby faced guys that if they shave they'll be asked for ID all the time, but apart from that its mostly a style thing. I find shaving annoying but I assume styling and trimming a beard would probably be worse if I could get past the itchy second day

the kisses at the end of posts, I guess its like air kisses for greetings, its just something girls tend to do, doesn't usually mean anything and I think most don't even realise they're doing it

Deoderant for boys o.o . If my armpits were sweaty all day n smelt like b.o. id kill myself just cos that... I was just confused on cologne cos deoderant whatever u use smells one way n I'm presuming cologne smells different so I didn't get why ppl would wear two different smelling things. Make your nose go WTF.

After shave I tried once n burnt the **** outta my face so was just curious of it actually had a purpose or was njust to hurt you... =/ .

I. Would have never guessed an x means kiss. -_-. Thanks.

My impression was that deodorant != body spray. You can buy anti-perspiratant deodorants, which I would recommend, but body spray wont mask strong odours, at least not for long. Besides, ads for Axe body spray tell you to spray it under your arms and across your chest, which is retarded. The scent will be gone in an hour. There's a reason why cologne/ perfume is sprayed on your wrists and neck. Let deodoant cover body odour/ perspiration while using body spray/ cologne to make you smell pretty handsome. :)

So anyway, body spray should never be used in lieu of deodorant!! I remember the other boys in my high school gym class would spray themselves all over with body spray after class, rather than showering/ using deodorant, and for the rest of the day the school would smell of sweat and Axe body spray. It was nauseating. Body spray is the cheap, high schooler's cologne. It wont mask body odour as well as deodorant, it wont last nearly as long, and the scents are usually not as pleasant as colognes. Consider your venue. If it's a fancy dinner party or wedding, use cologne; if you're going out to a club or bowling with peers, body spray is fine.

So basically, always wear deodorant, and consider your evening when choosing with what you will scent yourself. :)

You said it. Personal preference. Exactly the same reasons why people have different haircuts, or colour their hair, or chose to wear accessories or other non-essential items - their personal style, what they want to look like to the world.

I do it mainly as a signature thing at the end of a post. Also, similar reasons to the "hug" button. Expressing affection/caring etc.

Ah! Confusion over terms. AFAIK deodorant = body spray but deodorant/body spray != anti-perspirant (which is the one that stops you sweating). So Lynx smells good but Sure stops you sweating. As you said you can get anti-perspirant deodorant though, which just covers everything.

S'not radically important though.

Now you've totally confused me! @_@

You know, they could be the same in other places. Its uses might be up for debate, but my impression was that body spray isnt the same as deodorant. (Because body spray isn't as effective at masking odours, it wont last as long, and it isn't an anti-P.) I could always be wrong! :)
I'm never wrong! :P

Afaik is 'as far as I know' I believe.

My partner just uses regular deodorant, sometimes he uses after shave but mostly he doesn't use anything after he's shaved. I think it's just down to personal taste. My brother likes to use after shave and cologne and everything but it's just down to what you like really.

Where is the hug button? That yellow plus sign next to report on ppls things?

I wish life had a hug button. I love hugs :). Just sucks when nobody wants to give you a hug, or if they aren't good huggers. Hugs make the world better.

It only appears on the support boards, but it will be in the bottom right hand corner of posts (next to the [quote] [quote+] buttons).

The yellow plus sign means the person's online. Those who are offline have a grey minus sign.
