meds

If you're on medication how long did it take to find the right medication? How many different medications have you tried?

In 3 years I've tried Celexa, Prozac, Zoloft, Trazodone, Seroquel, Invega, Ativan, and Clonazepam. Celexa had terrible side effects and didn't work so I switched, Prozac worked but had terrible side effects(gave me an ulcer) so I switched, Zoloft didn't work and had terrible side effects(hurting that ulcer), Trazodone was just to help me sleep and worked but it made me feel like crap, Seroquel didn't work, Invega isn't working. Ativan helped but I was switched to Clonazepam because my doctor thinks it'll work better. I have an appointment with my psychiatrist on Tuesday.

Should it really be this difficult to find a medication that helps mentally and doesn't hurt physically?

I tried quite a few medications before I found the drugs and dosages that were effective. I take a combination of Effexor, Zyprexa and sodium valproate and they've completely changed my life.

Do you get any therapy? I had 12 months of CBT and I think that that, along with the meds, is what helps me maintain my recovery.

I've tried haloperidol, risperidone, amisulpride, clozapine, zuclopenthixol, aripiprazole and olanzapine. In the past 7 years.

Right now I'm on 20mg olanzapine and 15mg aripiprazole and it works quite well and I get only one side-effect (tiredness after I take olanzapine).

PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10 or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.

I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.

I've tried many medications, and I'm still trying to get the right ones atm.

It can take a long time, it's trial and error, but meds only do so much, therapy helps too and is often recommended alongside meds.

Same as the others, I've tried a whole bunch of meds and the right combination still has to be found.
Figuring out what works for you can take a long time.

I've had 3 months of DBT so far. It's somewhat helping. It's at least getting easier for me to ask for help when I need it.
