Friendship Bracelets

I'd like to have a go at making some friendship bracelets and I have googled it quite entensively but can't find any instructions that are really easy to follow - mainly they are vague and brief and don't mention details like how many different threads of each colour you need to make a pattern of several colours, or what kind of thread you need.

Does anyone make these? Can anyone explain it in an easy way for me? I'm just after one or two of the main patterns but I'd like them to be cool colours.

You can buy like kits that have instructions and threads and beads and stuff in them, usually in the likes of the poundshop or arts section of a toystore, or Argos even. My niece had one a few weeks ago, and you took like 3 threads in 3 collours, and fold them in half, and at the folded bit tie them so that there is a small loop. Then like split them into 3 groups of two threads and plait them. Then further down you can split it into two groups of 3 threads and make two plaits beside each other for a different design.

I don't know if that makes any sense at all, it had little pictures to explain it.

That makes sense. My problem is that most of the shops in my city are closed (earthquake) so I doubt I'll be able to find kits, but there is a sewing type shop that sells the kind of thread you use for cross stitching and I wondered if I could have a go with that.

Yeah, that's pretty much what usually comes in those kits so it's perfect.

Cool :) The you tube videos I found all went super fast so I dunno how successful I will be but I think it could be a good distraction to try making some.

I can't seem to find any instructions for very basic friendship bracelets, which is woeful, as they are very simple, and are the ones I use to make RYL meet bracelets :)

With most patterns the colours are entirely up to you and what you would like. The amount of threads to use is also up to you, the more threads, the wider the bracelet. The embroidery floss like DMC or Anchor are the idea things to use. =] Once you get the hang of them try different things with them.

I have these hanging from my ceiling everywhere cause they proved to be an amazing distraction.
