Impulse (Book)

(Impulse is such a good book, I am almost done reading it. Here is my favorite page 'cause I obviuosly can relate to it.)

Pg. 199

A Long Flowing Skirt

And a long-sleeved blouse
disguise all signs of SI-
no not Sports Illustrated.
SI stands for self-injury,
another term I learned
surfing the Web. The best
thing about those boards
and blogs is knowing
I'm not alone.

I cut to focus when my
brain is racing.
I cut to make physical
what I feel inside.
I cut to see blood
because I like it.
I don't like to cut,
but I can't give it up.

I have felt all those things,
cut for all those reasons.
But now I cut for another,
much more substantial reason.

(Yeah so that's my fav. line in the book, I can relate to it 100%. Can you?)

What's the book about? I mean, it's an interest page that you posted, but what is it actually about - is it all about SI, or what else does the storyline include? Author, etc?

The book is about three kids that tried to commit suicide, but didn't succeed, so they have to go to this not reallly mental instution, but a place something like one (if you ever saw the movie manic, it's something like that) The author is ellen hopkins I believe. Its a really good book.

I had a hard time at first with knowing who was who and stuff. The way it is written is deff. diff. then most books, so it can get a tad bit confusing at times, I am not finished yet, but I don't have much left. I think it is an amazing book and you will catch on to who is who soon enough. If you want me to explain each character just ask. =]

I was going to buy this at the airport last year but when I looked inside I didn't like the look of the way it was written. But maybe I should give it a go. I do like poetry. Is it all written like poems?

Yes it's all in poems. I read it a while back. It was alright once I got used to the style. Hate hate hate the ending though, seriously. Just made me feel like I'd wasted however long out of my life reading it!

I was hard to get use too. You didn't like the ending? I loved it.

I read this book about a month ago....It's now one of my favorites. Ellen Hopkins did an absolutely amazing job.

It's really good! The way it's written in poems is good but it looks a LOT longer than it actually is because there's so much empty space on each page. I bought it to read on the plane home from America thinking it would last me the journey because of the length but it didn't :(
Still brilliant though!
