Records.

I'm just wondering, if I can't go through the system - what are the work-arounds?

Been searching around & all I see is private healthcare, with no guarantees - legal or otherwise - about keeping my data private, which is exactly why I'm paying for private.

Online help only goes so far before you have to start paying, and yes, there's a dozen sticky'd topics saying 'don't diagnose' - but who's going to? Not my GP or anyone near my record, that's for sure.

Anyone know of any trust-worthy work-arounds to help us out? I'm getting pretty frustrated at not going anywhere, yet getting older with nothing to remember for being young...

Is there a reason you don't want anyone to know? It doesn't make much difference to the majority of jobs and maybe getting the right treatment is more important? If you see someone privately you would still need to declare it.
I guess you could try a voluntary organisation and give a different name and use a friend's address?

When you're looking at a career within the health service, then having a clean record is pretty much paramount. I'm not going to risk losing my current job and having very little options/opportunity to get back in employment by simply going through the system - finacially I have to be completely secure before even planning to enter the system.

what are you after? getting better or having a diagnosis. Im not sure which country you are in but Mind do some pretty good counselling which would remain private. But if youre after a diagnosis it would have to be via your gp and psych...be it private or not xx

well, with a diagnosis I can find alternative treatments, except that with a diagosis I expect them to start treatment pretty much as soon as possible.

I'm sorry but I'm a little lost about what youre saying. sorry.

I worked in the medical field for a long time while seeing a psych and therapist. Your confidentiality is protected.

I think that if you're at the point of needing to seek help, then that's the most important.

?

How exactly do you get past all the legal barriers that search medical records? I know for certain that if any issue were to come up, I'd be out of my job faster than lightning.

No job I've ever applied for, in the NHS or elsewhere has asked for access to my medical records. Pre-employment medical screening questionnaires have asked about mental health problems and I've been honest and it's never been picked up on by Occupational Health as an issue. Even if it is, Occ Health have to have your permission before sending anything to your managers (and you will normally have to sign off on the report).

Yeah, it sounds plausible but my current situation, that is I'm in a job and I didn't disclose it leaves me in trouble alley, really. I can't go and then be stuck in no-mans-land if anything pops up.

"The law does not say that you have to disclose your disability to an employer, unless the nature of your disability could cause health and safety issues in a work environment."
The Human rights and equality commission are a good source of information if you want to ring them and check where you stand.

I can already see the argument for this being the axe, if an issue were to come up. Even though it's completely wrong.
