Experiences in Residential/Supported Living?

Hey.
Firstly I apologise for not being about and not giving my support to others but I am currently in hospital recovering from anorexia and have been for quite some time now.

I was just wondering if anyone else had any experience in supported living and how they found it?

I have a panel meeting on Monday which I cannot attend due to being on 1:1 observations but its to get me into a flat which is attached onto the main part. Although I was told I might have to go into the area itself (residential) and live amoung others and the staff so as of yet so I'm just wondering other peoples experiences?

Each tear drop falls with sorrow, hoping and praying for another tomorrow!

i was in an adolescent residencial unit, which is probably different because as it was for minors there wasn't really much freedom. but i found it really helpful. much much better and more effective than an inpatient

this is my magical medicine cabinet. Left to right they contain: courage, hope, calmness, and strength.

The magical part: They NEVER run out, so borrow some any time you want.

PM me anytime, I love getting messages :)

I live in supported housing, there are a lot of different types of schemes which fall under the same heading but work very differently. Some places have very intensive levels of support and others give you more independence. Do you know what kind of support they will be offering?
My experience has been great, I spent a very long time in hospital and relapsed as soon as I got out because I couldn't cope in my home situation. I then received further intensive treatment for my ED and moved into supported housing almost as soon as I was discharged. My ED has been more stable since I moved in than any time in the last 10 years and I feel much better able to manage my other symptoms and focus on recovery than I ever have. We have staff support during the day every day then on call support 24 hours. I'm really glad I did it.

That response isn't much use I realise, but I'm not sure what to say without knowing what type of support you're being offered. I'm more than happy to talk to you via email if you want to PM me. Keep an open mind about what they're offering and see if it feels right for you.

Take care of yourself,

RBT x

I give myself very good advice
But I very seldom follow it
Could explain the trouble that I'm always in...

My partner has been in supported accommodation due to it being decided her home wasn't a suitable place to keep sending her home from hospital to. It was like a small house with 2 staff and 3 young people. It was funded by social services for her and she was 17 at the time she went there.

I think so long as it is the right level of support, as said above supported housing can mean a vast amount of different things, you should benefit greatly from it, its not a hospital environment, less institutional, but you still have the support as and when you need it, some supervision yet space to learn your own coping skills that can allow you to move on to something less 'invasive' in terms of accommodation, in the future.

If you have been in hospital a long time, it would also be a good step down for you and hopefully prevent a relapse that could see you back in a hospital environment. Consider it seriously and I hope that it offers what you need.

*hugs*
