Email for counselling?

I've been in university for about six weeks now, and I'm having an amazing time. My flatmates are brilliant, and I love my lectures.

But since I've been here, I've started s/h again after six months free. I've also been smoking a lot, although I have cut down. My flatmates know, and they have been brilliant, they look after the kit I am required to own for my biology degree so I dont have sharp things in my room etc.

But I feel bad burdening them with my problems, and I want to speak to someone about it. My university has a counselling service, and I'm thinking of emailing for an appointment, but is this the sort of thing they deal with? Or are they more for exam stress etc?

And what should I write in the email? I dont want to give too much detail, how much should I tell them?

Change has a considerable psychological impact on the human mind.
To the fearful it is threatening because it means that things may get worse.
To the confident it is inspiring because the challenge exists to make things better.
To the hopeful it is encouraging because things may get better.

You should be able to email them about hwo you're feeling and maybe tell him/her once you are actually in the appointment that you have been cutting or whatever you feel comfortable telling them since it will be your first appointment. Good luck and I hope goes well for you.

Email them, they'll have no problem helping with any problems you're having. My university also has a Student Advisor, who you can go talk to and she'll refer you for counselling if you want. Yours might have something like that? Then you wouldn't have to email the counselling service yourself? You might find that service somewhere. If you can't, its worth emailing them, even if you don't want to go into detail you can just say you're struggling or something? Good luck, I hope you get some support!x

I just sent the email.

I just put:

I would like to speak to a counsellor about issues that have been
affecting my work and my day-to-day life, including depression and OCD.

Would it be possible to make an appointment?

Thank you in advance

Now I just have to wait...
