More spinal surgery?!?!

The surgeons are considering more spinal fusion for me (loooong story) but to cut it short I have scoliosis and it's got worse despite having a full fusion mass - it shouldn't get worse when you're already fused for it. But I suffer a lot of pain at L5 and they are considering extending my fusion to L5, perhaps lower as I'm already fused T11-L3.

I am petrified, it's a rather major surgery as they're messing with paralysis! I know I've been through it before and it'd be a smaller fusion so less levels to be messing with but still, I was 17 when I had the first major surgery and I didn't give a damn I was so like "yeah whatever" kind of knowing but not realising the implications etc. I'm now 21 facing my second major spinal surgery and know exactly what implications there are and how big a deal this is. Meaning a few nights in intensive care, in hospital for a few weeks, lots of morphine, physio, hydro, a year of no BLT - bending lifting twisting perhaps a spinal corset to keep the fusion in place while it heals.

I'm seeing my surgeon on Monday the 13th so we can discguss where to go with it all. Because my pain can't go on like this either!

Just a hug or 2 would be great if you guys would sit with me that would be great too!

Lyssie xxx

You've already won me over in spite of me
And don't be alarmed if I fall head over feet
Don't be surprised if I love you for all that you are
I couldn't help it
It's all your fault

writing things down is always a good idea so that you go ovver everything you need to.
any type of surgery is daunting so having concerns is natural.

*sits with you* Discuss your concerns with your surgeon they may be able to ease some of your anxiety. Haven't really got alot of advice but here if you need anything

"Recovery is something that you have to work
on every single day and it's
something that doesn't
get a day off."

Hey hun sorry i have only just seen this thread and i wanted you to know i can kinda understand how you feel. My mum and me have scoliosis and she has had her lower spine fused. She also has a body brace and has to self cathatarise. Mine at the moment is managed with exercise and physio so i cant understand the pain of surgery but ive seen my mum go through it. If the doctors think you should have more ops then it may be for the best. Also dont forget you can voice your concerns and they can explain things to you. Take care and if you need anything then my pm box is always open xxx
