When to try medication (again)

I'm really struggling with sessions with my clinical psychologist and they are making me agitated with lots of angry feelings. I discharged myself from the psychiatrist as he wanted me to try more medication and my CP thinks that as I have BPD that there is point. I have tried lots of different types of medication and the last time I went to my GP about how I felt he prescribed a low level AP. I never took it, as I'd tried a different AP, mood stabiliser and ADs. I can't keep feeling like this, but I don't want to get sick from taking medication and for it not to work again.

If you have tried lots of medications is there any point trying any more?

You might be treatment resistant. Ask your psychologist or GP about that and see what they think.

Yeah I was diagnosed with treatment-resistant schizophrenia and I even tried Clozapine but that made me very physically ill so I had to stop. However now I'm on two APs and it's working well. So perhaps you have to go to the third-line option? i think you should arrange to meet with your psych and find out the best meds combination

PM me if you want a PDF copy of the ICD-10 or the Mental Health Act 1983/2007. I ALSO HAVE THE DSM-V BOOK and am a pharmacology student.

I have a visual impairment / neurological problems so I need people to type in clear text and no funny fonts. Also excuse any typos, my vision blocks things out.
I have autism and have problems communicating, PMs included.
Just becasue I type well doesn't mean I speak well. I am only part time verbal.

i would discuss with your psychiatrist your concerns as they know your background, what you have tried before and what options are left for you. Only they can diagnose you as treatment resistant.

Thanks. I can't discuss it with a psychiatrist as I discharged myself as my psychologist didn't want me on my medication and the psychiatrist did. I couldnt cope with the conflict.
When I last got this down I spoke to a duty worker and she said that as I had said I didn't want to see a psychiatrist before then they wouldn't rerefer.

It's not up to the psychologist and the psychiatrist can go over your psychologists head. maybe you should contact your psychiatrist and ask about seeing him/her again.

I have bpd (assuming you mean borderline pd). I am on meds. I think we have finally found a combination that works. It isn't failsafe and I still struggle but I am more stable and far less low and suicidal or impulsive. It has taken a while, including 4 months IP to sort out a combination to get me to this stage but it is possible. I am hoping that it will help me stay ok ish as possible when my psychotherapy starts next month so it is psycho plus meds in conjunction to help make things safer. You just might not have found the right combo.

Thank you. From the CPN's reaction last time I doubt they'll let me see a psychiatrist again. I think because I can work they assume I am coping and therefore I just have to get on with feeling like this. It's just that down, empty feeling that just doesn't go away that makes it pointless.

I don't see how the CPN can have the right not to refer you to a psychiatrist at your request, especially as this is based on you previously not wanting (read: not being able to cope with the conflict) to before.

If you can't get a referral through your CMHT/psychologist, it might be worth phoning PALS.
