Wound Care Question - Steri strips

How long should you leave steri strips on for? What if the wound is bleeding or there is yellow stuff coming from it? I did go to A&E because I thought I needed stitches (this was on Wednesday) but they just put steri strips on my wounds even though one of them wouldn't close.

Thanks.

I put it down on paper and then the ghost does not ache so much.

i always get told to leave steri-strips on for at least 5 days. sometimes depends where the injury is. hospitals rarely do stitches now, don't know why though. i have thought some of mine should have been stitched, but they wouldnt do it. the yellow stuff sounds as if it could be an infection, either go t your gps or back to the hospital to have it looked at. hope that helps

It depends on how bad the wound is. Usually when I have been to a+e and they have not stitched (when they probably should have) and used steris instead then I have been told to leave them on for 7-10 days. If there is fat coming through the strips though or if it is not holding then I would suggest making an appointment with your practice nurse at the GP or going to the walk in centre to get the wound checked out. It might be a good idea to go anyway if you are unsure how to care for the wound or dress it.

I don't really know about steri strips, but it sounds like the "yellow stuff" is pus, which could be a sign of infection. If the wounds where the "yellow stuff" is coming out of is deep think about seeing a doctor, because that could lead to infection. Take care.

They should be left on for 5 days and kept dry.
If the yellow stuff is clear, then it is normal fluid. If it is thick or cream like, then it could be an infection and you need to go to your GP.
