Zed, if you want to keep cats away from your plants place fresh orange peel around them. replace the old peel with new one at least once a fortnight.

When sunflowers grow to a certain length they begin to droop under their own weight. Placing a bamboo cane into the ground next to them and trying the plant to them with a little string or a twist tie, will keep the flower straight and unbroken.

Sunflowers grow sometimes grow too tall to support themselves properly, so you might need to get some gardening sticks (I've forgotten what they're called >.<) to gently tie them to, to keep them upright and growing okay =] *I think*

Once your sunflower is getting quite tall, get one of those gardening sticks that are green and look like they're made of bamboo and tie your sunflower to it. It's to make sure that when it grows really tall, it doesn't end up bending over and snapping :3
