Triggering (SI) - getting help
Does anyone know of free help? I live in the US and want to get help. I'm 20 years old.

Fight for another day
|
I am from Australia so don't know of anyone specific but is it possible to go to your doctor and get a referral for someone or what about ringing up your local hospital and seeing if they have any numbers of someone. I found a link for you, it is a list of different helplines in the US so they might be able to help too. Anyways I hope someone with more idea comes along. All the best

I'm not sure, as I live in the UK. What about ringing a helpline in your area? They could help put you through to someone who can help? Good luck. x

Don't know if I'll be of any help, but there are a couple of things or places I can think of. If you're at university, they often have free or cheap services for students. Also, depending on which city you're in, there are often counselling services that have at least reduced rates for those without insurance. But I do have to say, it can be difficult to find help for free in the US, but I do know there are some services for people without insurance. I think if you look at the hrsa site (you can google it; it's a .gov site), you can find clinics with service that you are looking for.
Good luck!! And PM me if you need anything. :)

One thing is sure-
we have to do something.
We have to do the best
we know at the moment.
If it doesn't turn out right,
we can modify it as we go along.

I don't know where you are from, but if it's a cost thing there are places you can go. If your income isn't very high sometimes you can get government health care that is cheaper or sometimes free. Maybe you could look into it?

i do go to college but it's community. counseling isn't really for cutting there. I do not have a job but live with my mother.

Hey, I'm from the US also, and unfortunately there isn't a whole lot of free help here, but many therapists know that and are willing to work with you. They may work on a sliding scale basis, meaning they will charge you based on your ability to pay.
Also, my therapist recommends workbooks. These aren't the ones you did in elementary school. They have all sorts of exercises you can do yourself to help you work through difficult emotions and so on. Try Self-Injury: A Workbook for Adults, which you can get at Amazon.
I would also recommend calling the helplines the other posters suggested. It's their job to be helpful, after all! Good luck and I'm eager to hear how it all works out for you :).

My name is Matt, and I am a boy. Feel free to PM me :)
I have learned that the world is not a safe place. Not at all. But there are so many people who love me and want to keep me safe. And that is enough.

depending on where you live, what your insurance is, etc. you might be eligible for government help. i'm a full time student at a school out of state without a job and no mental health coverage, so all my therapy costs, medications, etc are paid for by westmoreland county. so i would suggest going to your local hospital crisis center and figuring it out that way. pm me if you have further questions.

If only you could see me yesterday, who I used to be before the change, you'd see a broken heart, you'd see the battle scars. Funny how words can't explain how good it finally feels to break the chains. I'm not what I have done.
I'm what I've overcome.
