i cant give blood at the minute cause im pregnant but i agree with what has been said about the nurses they are really friendly and do every thing they can to put you at ease, i barely felt anything when they started taking blood and they were really patient with my fear of needles, and you get tea after.

I am in the US, but I am donating on the 21st, the supplies are low here as well.
It is odd that you have to wait for piercings, here as long as they were done in a licenced facility, you do not have to wait. Tattoos are a year though.

my friend aimee has given blood so many times she's on her way to getting a gold heart as a reward :) I'll persuade her to go again and I'll go with her for moral support :)!

if you mean 'clean' from self harming you certainly don't have to be clean for a year before donating!
heh, when i tried to give blood a few years ago, they saw some scars on my arms and asked how long it'd been since i'd self harmed and i said like "3 months" or something and then they basically took me into a back room, implied that i might enjoy it too much (?!) and told me to tell my friends that the reason i couldn't donate any blood was because i had "little veins".
