Vegetarian but craving turkey!

I've been a vegetarian for 10 years, and for some reason I have the worst craving for a turkey sandwich with miracle whip and lettuce...

I've tried Tofurkey, but I wasn't that crazy about it......It doesn't have much flavor, and the texture is weird.

Normally I don't crave meat - I tend to even avoid meat substitutes like fake burgers and stuff - but tonight it's really bad.

I feel sort of guilty for wanting it.......any other good substitutes or suggestions? Do other veggies crave meat here on occasion too? I'm not anemic, so I think I am getting enough protein (sometimes cravings are due to vitamin deficiency.)

Thanks for the help!

It's 18 years since i was a vegetarian, so i wouldn't know what substitutes are available now. And i've never lived in the USA either.

I didn't used to crave meat... except bacon. I thought that was normal.

Sorry i can't help.

But i just have to ask: what the heck is 'miracle whip'?

I crave meat sometimes also, so you're not alone in that one. Quorn is a very good suggestion.

I was a vegetarian for a long time and I decided to just eat meat in the end. I never craved meat at all though but then I don't really like the taste of meat. I'm a big quorn fan =)

I've been vegetarian for 11 years and before that only ate chicken and fish so have never really tasted meat to crave (except chicken nuggets but you can get good Quorn ones).

I like vegi sausages and vegi burgers though for something a bit meaty sometimes. And to be honest if I am buying lunch in Tesco at Uni I'm often tempted to buy a chicken sandwich purely because there are virtually no Vegen ones and I don't like cheese or egg.

Some people say grilled portobello mushrooms can help with meat cravings. Or I like normal Tofu/bean curd chunks as well.

Thanks for the suggestions...I like seitan a lot, actually, and I am thinking of trying to make my own, marinade it, and slice it for sandwiches or something....Does anyone know if it can be frozen? I live alone and would probably make a few at a time and freeze them so they dont spoil.

I have heard of Quorn, but am not really sure what it is exactly...

Miracle Whip has a "tangy zip" (Tagline = Nothing like the tangy zip of miracle whip.) Mayo doesn't. haha

See I don't think I could be a vegetarian, even though I'd liked to be.
