Insomnia!

Lately I havent been able to sleep like ... At all until I'm so exhausted I essentially pass out ...

I know of a few things that have helped in the past. My psychiatrist actually recommended benedryl (Cause I can't be trusted with sleeping pills.)

Benedryl worked in the past - but unfortunately considering the new formula they use - I have to take a rather unhealthy amount in order to put me to sleep ...

And, while benedryl helps with anxiety - thats only tackling part of the issue!

So does anyone have any home remedy suggestions for help with insomnia (Other than warm tea and hunny cause that mixture makes me sick =/)

Valerian root extract is good. You can get it from most chemists/health shops.

Have you tried camomile tea?

Lavender oil in a bath before bed, or under the pillow?

Insomnia is rubbish I know.

Sometimes the most helpful things are the simplest behaviour changes. Obviously no caffeine after mid afternoon, don't eat your evening meal too late at night and try and stay away from TV and computer before you go to bed. Listen to some calming music on a CD player or Ipod, I used to have a baby lullaby CD that always sent me to sleep.

As mentioned above Herbal teas can be invaluable in helping you sleep. I buy hops, valerian root, skullcap, and lemon balm and mix them together in a tea. It works as a natural sedative, and it always works for me when I am too anxious to sleep. It might not work for everyone, and I would recommend you speak to your doctor if you want to use them. If you need the link to a good supplier(haha that sounds weird) PM me.

Or you could try listening to a soothing tape?
Hope you get some decent shuteye soon!

When I had insomnia, I used to literally run myself down so that I was exhausted. So I used to exercise a lot in the evenings, like go for a quick run. I understand that this might not work for everyone.

I might try the tea. I'm not a big fan of tea from tea leaves but ... Hey - if they dont taste that bad I'm fine ^^

It doesnt help that I've been having really bad anxiety - but Benedryll helps with that too <33

I might actually try the lavender oil. I'm a big fan of incense and oils - Especially while meditating and if it can help me sleep thats a plus!

And - Hannah - I do that too. But ... I'm not very active XD So - Usually i have to stay up when I cant sleep till I pass out =/

Can you try taking an exercise class or something? I usually run myself into the ground with work and exercise classes until I'm exhausted- I try to get out of the house a lot. Maybe that'd work for you? Are you still in school? Sometimes my history text book is the best sleeping pill ever. xD People in my class have literally fallen asleep on the book in class. If you have any textbooks that you hate, you can try reading them to bore you- just don't read anything interesting. That makes it harder to sleep (for me at least). Does meditating help you sleep at all- maybe it'll relax you enough for you to fall asleep. Taking a bath might help, I used to take a bath with either lavender or vanilla stuff. Hm...I don't know what else. I hope you get some sleep. :/

Lavender is really good, as its one of only two oils that can be applied directly to the skin (tea tree being the other) and is wonderful in treating all sorts of things too..so its handy to have..lavender baths, lavender creams, its very good for burns..apply directly on to skin straight away, will take away pain and reduce scarring, (i think they still use it in hospitals) headaches, anxiety, etc its good for most things really...just dont use too many drops as this can have a revitalising effect if overdone..i like to put a little actually directly where my face is on pillow or onto a hanky that can be inhaled.....so yu can inhale the relaxing scent...lavender is the mother of all oils and i recommend you buy it just for that reason..its wonderful and i do hope you get success...blessings...xx chamomile oil is also a great one..but its not one of my favourites, if it works for u, it will be really good alongside the lavender.xx

DWTS4 - Yeah meditation helps a lot. I wish I could sleep right now but as long as my stupid ****ing brother is out partying I cant -__- I'm puppy sitting and I've already made the mistake of trying to sleep today while doing so ...

@Love - Yeah ... I'll really have to try that - though ... If I'm not given the opportunity to sleep (Such as today) Then it dont do much good ^^;

Have u tried warm milk?? I usually have that with a little bit of sugar and that helps. I am struggling with sleep I get about 2-4 hours on a school nights. Sometimes this is due to the fact I pass out. My mom is making me use this hypno theropy thing, it works. I always fall asleep quite quickly. It tells me to focus on my breathing while counting back from 300 (when it said such a big number I swore at it but I usually don't get below 200 because my mind goes back to 280 alot. It works rather well. But it's annoying at the same time.

You're better than this. Breathe in. Breathe out. It'll be okay. I promise. Just don't forget to smile :)

The funny thing is,
nobody really ever knows how much
anybody is hurting.
We could be standing next to somebody,
who is completely broken,
and we wouldn't even know.

I've been like this lately! It was driving me mad, I was exhausted. But last week I went to stay with my boyfriends parents and slept much better, I've been sleeping better since I got home. So it's made me think that it might be my bed and I'm uncomfortable, I'm able to sleep OK other places, it's just my house!

Anyway. I'm really rubbish at finding ways to make me sleep better so I can't really suggest anything sorry. Just wanted to sympathise because it is horrible!

I hope you sleep better soon.

Dillusional thoughts and stuff like that doesn't really help either -_- But ... Either way ...
