You could also try fudge hair dyes. I didn't get on with manic panic but maybe it was just my hair!

Oh yeah, fudge paintbox dyes work really well, I used cupcake pink, orange, and dark red on my fringe about 7 or 8 months ago and they worked really well. I'm from Australia and I brought them in priceline, I assume you have priceline in NZ too? If not I'm sure you could find them in a similar store really easy. Good luck (:

oh a tip for making directions stay in/ be more vibrant.
When you put it on your hair, pile your hair ontop of your head, then use a carrier bag or some cling film like a bandanna over the top. The warmth will help the color sink in more and lock it in. You can also put a winter hat over the top for added heat. (And leave on for as long as you can. I used to sleep in mine)
Also, its a good idea, if you can to switch to a mild shampoo like a baby shampoo as it dosnt pull it out so much and you can buy special conditioners in supermarkets now that lock in color.
But if you really want to keep your color, then put some of your dye in with your shampoo, about 20-30% dye. Then use it at the beginning of your shower, but dont wash it off till then end of your shower. (But make sure you ash your shower out properly after you have been in, else you will get color splats all up the sides)
I used to love my pink hair, but working the shifts I did, I rarley had time to do it properly. I used the above mentioned methods and I used to get vibrant pink directions to last 6-8 weeks.

also - rinse your bath or shower out before you use it so colour doesn't stick so easily to the sides.
my brother once permanently turned his hair blue when he used hair mascara in his fringe (blonde hair) and used gel to quiff it up!
a friend of mine who is a hairdresser recommends blasting hair with hairdryer in cling film for added heat and to use mayonaisse on dry hair as a conditioner - the protein form the eggs and the oil moisturise and fill in protein gaps made by bleaching it. so put on dry hair sit in bath for a nice soak - then put shampoo onto dry hair, rinse and re-shampoo til its all out.
