Yep, it is like SI, really you have to look behind the reasons why you're picking at your skin and try and stop yourself doing it. Also make sure you care for any wounds that you make and possibly cover areas up that you're likely to damage.
I'm going to move this to Self Injury Discussion and Support where I feel it will fit in better. If you want it moving elsewhere/ back here for whatever reason feel free to contact a forum mod.

Also, to anyone else, Dermatillomania is obsessive skin picking so yes, it can become an OCD type thing but it also may not be and can be just due to feelings that you can't control that you take out by picking your skin.

I have been doing this for so long but it is a habit of picking on your skin and yes, it is si and ocd sort of, you can cover up around the area like polyporins just in case for pains or putting up the wounds on it. the scars will faded aloe vera that works for the best!..You are not alone in this too..I'm with you every step of the way..
Oh, just a reminders, if you are picking in the deep and make sure you will clean up a bit after 10 minutes and then puts the creams around the wounds then puts the band-aids if it's hurts or pains..before, putting the warm cloth on it then you can puts the cream around the wounds.
take care of yourself first:)..

hey there, dermatillomania is often said to be similar to trichotillomania (hair pulling) and i think a lot of hair pullers also pick at their skin...especially to get at a hair. it can be really hard to deal with, both the behaviour itself and the consequences. i try to keep my nails short too, it does help a bit. i'm here if you need more support.
