I watched Shine on DVD yesterday, twice after getting it through the post.

Based on the true story of Australian pianist David Helfgott, this delightful movie charts the early and traumatic early years. Telling the story in flashback we see David as he grows up and into a child prodigy while his father abuses him and his siblings with the memory of his childhood in Europe and the loss of his family in the concentration camps. David finally breaks away from his father and goes away to study overseas, he later suffers a breakdown and returns to Australia and a life in an institution. Many years later he is released and through several twists of fate (in reality even more unlikely than film portrays) he starts playing a piano in a bar before finally returning to the concert hall.

Check it out.

Stop thinking about what I want, what he wants, what your parents want. What do you want?

Once is amazing!

It's so easy to get lost in constantly having to present

Ever feel like you are in the Truman Show...?

....but instead of him, it's you? I do.

Also I watched Don't Say A Word, and am now convinced that my psychologist perceives me as per Brittany Murphy's character.

I like Saw (and films like it), but this one was just a bit rubbish. Had lots of blood and gore and many a vampire blowing up. I guess the sort of reverse take on vampire films was good though.

I watched 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time the other day.

I'm still hunting for the scattered fragments of my blown mind.

2001 is an amazing film. It's so weird and complex and works on so many different levels. With all Kubrick's work you have to watch, watch and watch again and you'll still miss things xD

I really don't get Kubrick at all. I've seen a good few of his films numerous times and they're very, very good but I don't get the whole hype about them being so awesome. Maybe that's just me.
