I'm doing group therapy right now, it's based on anxiety, but most of the girls have had problems with self-harm and it come up a lot.
I was very nervous about group at first, but it is actually amazing. Obviously it depends on th group, but they can be really really helpful! You join together and support each other and it's really nice.
You get what you give. It can be hard to talk at first, but it is so soo worth it!
Good luck, I hope it really helps you!!

It's not the inpatient unit at the bethlem is it? Cos i've been there if you want to know anything.

Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

ooh let me know how you get on cheryl (i presume this is your name???)

thanks shae-lynn, the guy that runs the group and did the assessment was really nice and said that everyone is nervous to begin with even the leader people but once we all get comfortable with each other it usually works really well.

thanks control freak, nah...its run at bromley stepping stones where the cmht is run from. but prob very similar to the bethlem one, any experiences would be appreciated :)

I was in a group for depression and anxiety although there were others who self harmed. i loved knowing and actually meeting people who were going through the same things as me. unfortunately we only really talked about superficial topics though. It was still a great experience and I made some good friends. Good luck I hope everything goes well for you :D
pm me if you need anything

dear god yes and it was rubbish, but that was more because rather than being a support group the made it an educational group ( yeah teach self harmers about self harming wtf!!)

It was horrible, but on the plus side i met some wicked people and made a really good friend.

i hope to make some friends through it too, i am lucky to have lots of friends and of the ones that know they are fantastic and dont make me feel bad cos i sh but apart from about 2 of them they dont understand why i do it. so it will be nice to meet people who completely understand.

the guy that runs the course told me that they dont overly go into the sh part altho it is a requirement of the course as its a sh course. but its more dealing with problem solving and sorting out our emotional problems and from that trying to help us deal with the problems before sh-ing.
if anyone tells me how to sh or what sh is i may walk out, i been sh-ing for over 12 years, they aint much you can teach me.

fingers crossed xx
