Wouldn't Reformation Day properly be October 31, since that's when Luther nailed his 95 theses to the chapel door?

beginning of my devo in email this morning...
just pieces of it that were jacqui's definition of 'good oww' lol

Anabel Gillham was a woman who loved God, but had trouble accepting that God could love her. Sure, she knew the Bible verses that talked of God's unconditional love for her, and yet she knew herself, and doubted a God who knew her innermost thoughts would approve or her.
The root of her problem was how she saw God and how she believed God saw her. She knew what kind of God He was. She read, Exodus 34:6, "Then the LORD passed by in front of him [Moses] and proclaimed, 'The LORD, the LORD God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in loving kindness and truth...", but she believed she had to earn that love. She believed she had to be good enough to deserve it.

You see, I believed that in order for a person to accept me, to love me, I had to perform for him. My standard for getting love was performance-based, so I "performed" constantly, perfectly.
...I carried this belief into my relationship with God, and as I began to study the Bible, I found, to my horror, that He knew my every thought, let alone everything I said or did (Psalm 139:1-4). I was standing "bare and wide open to the all-seeing eyes of our living God" (Hebrews 4:13), TLB. What did that mean to me? That meant that He really knew me, that He saw me when I wasn't performing well. Based on what I perceived as my responsibility to perform in order to receive acceptance, I concluded without a doubt that He could not possibly love me, that He could never like what He saw. For years, I lived as though I had to be "good enough" for God to love me. I understood that salvation was a gift of grace - a free gift from God that I did not earn - but somewhere I began believing the lie that I had to perform properly to keep the gift. I feared if I was not good enough, He would take it back. But that is a lie.
I am enough...because Jesus lives in me and the Holy Spirit works through me.

.... yeh =\

Ahhh... Ye, it's I completely forgot I put in on my profile :P

Sorry, I'm really new to this. I've been writing articles on religion for two years, and I've just finished the planning stages of a book, but I only recently realised that my own beliefs were changing^^

*hugs*

so i innocently decided to ask jacqui how her email inbox's been... yeah:

NOVEMBER 3
REFLECTION FOR TODAY
A river cannot be rerouted successfully without making a new channel and damming up the old one. If you put the dam up without a new channel being ready, the water may or may not go where you want it to. It may cause flooding or break the dam, or it may rechannel itself into an undesired place. So it is with our habits. If we stop an old habit without being ready to (usually because someone tells us to), we chance failing and getting discouraged. We chance forming other undesirable habits. We chance getting ourselves so discouraged we give up.
MEDITATION FOR TODAY
Remind me that progress takes time and patience.
TODAY I WILL REMEMBER
My habits were not formed overnight. I need to give myself time to replace negative traits with positive traits.

really now?
my email's turning into jacqui's... haha:

Paul wrote: "Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me--put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you" (Philippians 4:9 NIV)
When it comes to changing the way we speak, we may have some very powerful reflexes to overcome. The Bible tells us that when we come to Christ, we are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). However, no one pushes the delete button to erase the old habits patterns that have been formed over time. That comes with practice, training and reprogramming.

In the New Testament, God calls us temples of the living God (1 Corinthians 3:16). Just as Jesus cleaned the temple at the beginning and the end of his earthly ministry, so we may need to clean out our temples many times. Yes, we make a clean sweep of the sin in our lives on the day we accept Jesus as our Savior, but eventually, those bad habits tend to creep back in if the temple is left unattended. So check up on yourself often. Pay attention to your words and determine if you need a spring cleaning to keep the temple pure.

yes it talks bout words, and i need to cahnge that [yay self depreciatingness....] but the second part applies to pretty much anything ><

uhm yeh. *hides more* haha

Hey everyone.

I was just at a meeting (well, not "just", but anyway), and our bible reading for this week was Deuteronomy 14-18. And the speaker spent a huge amount of time focusing on 14:1, talking how sef harm is wrong as it shows disrespect to the body, and hence, God. Sitting there, I felt like I'm being attacked, like it was directed only at me. (Yes, most people know I SI, and nobosy of those know that I'm trying to quit). I know I'm probably overreacting *sigh*, but it's still bothering me.

Then wear the gold hat, if that will move her;
If you can bounce high, bounce for her too,
Till she cry "Lover, gold-hatted, high-bouncing lover,
I must have you!"

oxymoron - when i SHed, i felt like i was doing the most terrible thing in th eworld. but now i'm starting to be free, i don't think SH is a sin, and the only person i've ever asked said the same to me. it's a way of coping with pain, not a very good one, but it's not really one we choose either. it's addictive, if we had known how much it would overtake us i doubt we'd have continued to the point of addiction. now i think maybe if SH makes you crabby, or stops you praying, things like that, those things are sin, but the actual act itself is neutral, depending on the intention behind it. so doing it to upset or manipulate someone, suicide attempts, to upset God, those are probably no-noes, but when it's a coping mechanism, sure it's not healthy, but it's not a sin and it doesn't seperate us from God. we might feel seperated from God, but feelings are not fact.

Question for those of you with food issues...has anyone tried saying grace before/after meals? Has it helped?
I used to, and I don't remember when I stopped. And then somehow I stumbled across yet another Hebrew prayer [I do tend to like those, don't I?] for grace after meals, and I've been saying [or singing] it quietly after I eat, and it really has helped.

For the curious...have an adorable child singing this one.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4g8PcykGwdM[/ame]
The Hebrew means, roughly, "Blessed is the merciful one, Ruler of the world, Creator of this bread."
The English is "You are the source of life for all that is, and Your blessing flows through me."

Why yes, that *is* the melody to "Lord prepare me/To be a sanctuary/Pure and holy/Tried and true..." Heh.

i'm not in the habit of saying grace but i found when i prayed as i ate, or imagined Jesus being there, it was a lot easier to eat.
