Smoking requires one hand, whereas the highway code stipulates two hands on the wheel ( If I remember rightly) in most cases... If you are lacking a cigarette lighter in your car, you'd need to light the cigarette with either the other hand or while the fag was in your mouth, further distracting you.
I'm a smoker and sometimes i do smoke in my car but only if im in traffic for a long time and not moving.
I think it would be a good idea if it's banned but it's like not useing your mobile while driving people still do it.
" my precious, precious child, I love you and I would never, never leave you during your times of trials and suffering. When you see only one set of footprints it was then that I carried you" you were carried out of are lifes into the next and when its my time to leave this life I know i will be carried into the next life with you.
I wish i had my world complete again.
'Can we protend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars, i could really use a wish right now' BoB
I don't think there is any sense in banning it because it would be too tricky to enforce. I mean, would they all out ban it or just when the car is in motion? Would is be everyone in the car or just the driver?
I've never been able to smoke in my car because I found it too distracting. I would just wait for a traffic jam or service station.
I think if the Government were ever to consider it they'd just have recommend that drivers pull over to smoke because of the distractions. At some point you have to let people take responsibility for themselves and just hope they take sensible advice.
People shouldn't smoke, eat, drink.talk on the phine while driving,...and it's better if not to talk at all to anybody in the car! (my opnion).
I agree with this, in theory. In reality, I'm all for Darwinian theories being put to the test - it's their choice after all & I fail to see why the legal system should be used in a way that drastically infringes on our own learning/development of our own sense of judgement. After all, we learn from our own and other's mistakes.
It takes no hands to smoke. Ash goes in the ash tray. No ones car is going to explode unless you're paranoid beyond all belief, and if you're that paranoid then it might be best you're not driving as there are a lot of other bigger risks involved in it.
And he brought me into a vast farmlands of our own midwest. And as we descended, cries of impending doom rose from the soil. One thousand, nay a million voices full of fear. And terror possesed me then. And I begged, "Angel of the Lord, what are these tortured screams?" And the angel said unto me, "These are the cries of the carrots, the cries of the carrots! -- Not a vegetarian

It does take one hand from steering wheel to ashtray so it does cause a physical distraction to having both hands on the wheel.
Well, I can't drive, and Flem's driving terrifies me - but then driving in general makes me nervous.
It can be worse when shes smoking I guess, but then shes pretty trained in it, I hate it when she lights her own cigerette whilst shes dirving though. Scares the **** out of me.
I am quite biased however, I think passengers should be allowed to smoke =p
this is the thing some people are just retards and shouldn't be driving fullstop
bottomline
and there are others that can drive
i will not smoke with kurt in the car or a non smoker
i think anyone who smokes with a child in the car is a moron and that should be not only band but charges should aply
but as for me driving down the highway by myself with a ciggie in my mouth get over it i am not going to kill you because i am ashing out the window you light your smoke at a light so you dont have to do it while you drive
there are far to many laws as it is that infringe upon the rights of choice
but there is nothing wrong with my driving while i smoke
texting on a phone while driving is just stupid talking on a phone well i hate talking on phones so i dont care either way, but its easy to get a hands free kit for a car so who cares
my car my choice if you are a smoker and you feel like a smoke have one
To whom I may offend,
hahahahaha
Yours faithfully the monkeys arse
I think smoking while LIVING should be banned. Like really, why the hell is it legal? It had absolutely no benefits and a number of consequences. I mean, if you want to lose your appetite and get relaxed then it works for that, but smoking is a bad way to achieve those things. That being said, I used to smoke so I wouldn't eat as much, and it did relax me. But I realized that it is SO NOT worth it at ALL.
Anyways back to the main idea, yeah, smoking is also a distraction so it should probably be banned while driving.

By that logic so many things should be banned. The way I see it the state shouldn't interfere with people's lifestyle choices unless they directly have negative impacts on other's.
Also I don't understand how being relaxed is not a benefit? If you ever talk to a psych or CPN or GP about your mental health the one thing they nearly always talking about is doing activities that are relaxing. Obviously smoking isn't one they suggest, but relaxation is a major benefit for anyone struggling with stress and anxiety.

I hope if they ever enact your wishes they make it retroactive and with harsh punishments.
I still dont understand how they can justify Cigarettes being legal and Cannabis being illegal.
But I suppose money talks and its all about the Tax.
As for smoking while driving only just about to start driving so dont really know how awkward it is. I've not seen many problems with it when my mates do it though.
Courage is like a muscle. We strengthen it with use.
smoking whilst driving doesnt leave both hands of the wheel for the entire fag, its literally just while you inhale it, and flick it wich you really dont have to look for either! then your hands on the wheel again, etc. its less distracting then turning the radio up or changing station, as you dont have to look to see where your mouth is, and hand time off wheel is quicker!
and so so many people dont drive with 2 hands on the wheel. who does all the time?
