If they got triggered, they didn't kick up a fuss about it, they got on with their lives.

So should you.

I am not just struggling with sh but shitloads of things that alot of you could not even begin to imagine.

I haven't come across pictures of bandages and you may think this is weird but I would find a bandage image far easier to deal with than those dressings as the bandage is going to cover the whole area.

I'm not asking anyone to hide and as I have said again and again, scars visible to me are fine.

Further, I thought that particular board was as titled, random pictures etc. People keep going on about "may trigger" warning but there isn't such a label on that thread, just a "scars visible" one, which, as I have said, i can deal with.

Please can people stop making this thread so personal and just express their opinions in a fair and balanced way.

so wait because your struggling everyone should change how they do things ok that makes sense.

No reason- you say don't make it personal yet one of your comments was directed straight for me. I'm not hypocritical, I'm sorry if you think I attacked you. I didn't. I merely just said what I thought, I expressed my opinion exactly how I wanted to, if I meant to attack I wouldn't have been nice.

anyway, my opinion on this matter - I don't see a problem with dressings or bandages or any of the above mentioned ways to cover cuts being shown. To be honest, some of the scars I've seen on people are a LOT more shocking than seeing a clean dressing. I think this is once again another case of RYL becoming way too censored. Of course I don't think you should be allowed to show fresh cuts or SH tools or suicide scenes but I also don't think you should have to put a label to every thread. Someone on this site will be triggered by almost everything, I can see there being a warning for dogs or cats or flowers or hugs or kisses next. I really really think people should reconsider relying on RYL to provide a nice comfortable place where they can be protected from everything nasty. I think they should use it as a harsh reality to push them toward recovery. I don't think anybody here considers SH to be a nice thing, (if they do its unhealthy) so the realities that people sometimes may need bandages from hospitals or stitches or to be sectioned or even to be operated on to rectify the damage they have caused themselves shouldn't be ignored.

With arm warmers or other ways of covering up, it's not as apparent, because there's no telling if the scars/wounds hidden are several years old or from yesterday.

I'm not triggered by it... but I can easily see why it might, and please everyone: Surely, thinking about it, it's not that strange. There's no need for insensitive comments. "Shut up and deal with it" is something I expect from bullies, not our members. (Yes, I exaggerated.)
I just want to say thank you because right now it feels as though no-one cares about my opinion and it seems popular for anyone replying just to insult me.

I'm not saying that the fact that I am struggling means people should change things.

Even if I didn't have all the **** going on that I have at the moment, I still don't think it is appropriate to have people displaying dressings on sh wounds.

I haven't replied to anything you have said from what I know so I am not sure what you mean about directing comments to you.

I am not asking RYL to be some kind of bubble and quite frankly am sometimes astounded by some of the things people have asked, directly on threads, to be put in hide boxes. However, I have never belittled their opinion or fear/trigger, etc.

I am very much aware of stitches, bandaging, surgery, etc. However, I say again, I do not think it is appropriate to display and I see it as an entry into competition re wounds, dressings, stitches, which happens at the moment already.

Maybe I missed it, but did anyone suggest a rule change? I don't think so, and that wasn't the question asked in the original post. Since opinions were wanted, opinions are given - that's no need to turn it into an argument.

So basically, saying that RYL is becoming more cotton-woolly wouldn't be technically correct, seeing as no change to the rules has been proposed. Whether it's too cotton-woolly now is a different debate, but I guess it's impossible to find a middle ground everyone is happy with.

I'm a bit of an on-and-off visitor on pic threads, but I can't say I've come across pictures of bandages much. Nothing obvious, anyway.

I also just read back to see if I forgot something and was about to quote myself because I thought "hey, I agree with that person" and then realized it was me. I'm sad. :P

no change in the rules has been proposed but realistically, you must see it happening too? Im sure it's not just me? Oh I don't know.

No reason you said it was hypocritical of the person who told you to grow up elsewhere not to be able to express their opinions without attacking you, unless someone else told you to grow up I took that to be directed at me from the thread this all started from? if i'm wrong then you may ignore what I said at the start of my previous post. and the rest of that post wasn't directed at you or anyone in particular so please dont feel the need to reply and defend yourself, as I stated before I wrote it I was just giving my opinion on the topic of this thread

Well done, Rike *Pats*

And no, there have been no rule changes, but it's only a matter of time. If said member who is complaining gets his/her way and the picture gets taken down, I can almost guarantee other members following suit and complaining about a picture of a dressing or bandage and wasting mod's time with a very tiny matter when they could be dealing with more important issues.
Eventually, mods will just comply with turning it into a rule so they can deal with other more pressing matters [Not saying you guys are lazy or anything :P]
So, it can either be left as it is and ONE member out of the thousands of members on here can remain unhappy [God forbid] OR it's going to just get out of hand, like I mentioned in my above paragraph.

Now please, just let it go.

I didn't realise that you had decided to sling that at me aswell. I was referring to someone else who had said that and whose profile tells me they are 17. I'm sure they are far more mature than me, despite the fact that I have been living in the real world far longer, etc. To me, such a comment, by anyone, suggests an immaturity that cannot be measured.

Sorry but you have to have noted the insults that people have been allowed to say to me on this and the picture thread. For some reason, it is ok for people to gang up on me and say what they want but the minute I have a teeny weent transgression in the face of such an onslaught, it is addressed to me in public thereby giveing further fuel to those who want to belittle me, my maturity, my experiences and feelings.

Oh, my bad, that was me you aimed it at?
And, darling, if a picture of a dressing triggers or upsets you, then sadly, you cannot have been living in the real world for THAT long.
You've simply been living in the virtually padded walls of RYL.
So, clearly, I am more mature than you, despite what you say. As at least I have a genuine argument which makes a hell of a lot of sense..you can see by the amount of people agreeing with my point of view [Most of whom are in their 20's etc. So, obviously more 'mature' than I am] whereas you just keep repeating the same argument.

Age is irrelevant, sweetheart, learn that and one day, you can possibly properly grow up. :)

well to me, your comment about having the picture removed suggests an immaturity that cannot be measured. You say you've been living in the real world for longer, yet here you are on a website fighting against people suffering in the same way you are because they had a dressing on their arm. Don't patronise me, I don't care if you're older than me. I have also lived in the real world and experienced a lot of shiit, I'm not immature and I find it horrendously insulting that you would say I am. The fact that you are taking this entire thread as an insult to you and not a general thread is irritating the hell out of me, you raised a point, people are here to discuss their views on it. It is NOT all about you. Sorry you're in a bad place, but you're not the only one. I'm done with this. Congratulations on successfully pissing me off.

As far as I know, the suggestion was a hide box. The picture would still be there.

It may not be the opinion of the majority, but I quite like the fact that nowadays minorities can speak up. That doesn't mean things will change - it only means that everyone is heard. Of course, that doesn't work if the majority drowns out any opposing voices. I don't want RYL to become too cotton-woolly either... but there's no harm in hearing out other opinions.

People keep saying that RYL is becoming more censored - and no, that's not just one person talking, I've read it a lot especially on this board - but I don't see it. The ban on numbers is the only rule change I can think of to that effect. If there are more examples, please let me know - I'm definitely more of a chat person than a forum person.

What I find particularly ironic, though, is that the person criticised here didn't even make this thread.

i think that this is crazy its a bandage one single bandage so if i have a band aid on then it should be removed cause well i could have self harmed right? it comes down to how ridclous can we get? i however dont think ryl is to cotton wooly the only rule is the one rike stated which is the no numbers which is proberly one of the best changes made on this site. it was getting to be a contest and i can understand how you might think it will be with the bandages but i just dont think it will be possible with the mods around

Actually, they upset me. Thanks, Nic.

Well done people - this will quite likely be locked, and you won't have to listen to alternating opinions. Proud?
