What did you have to explain? There was no new characters in the whole thing apart for Narcissa! Everyone else had been in it before!
I can't remember off the top of my head exactly, but what I can remember is having to explain who Fenrir was, what Malfoy was doing with the cabinet, had to go into detail about the Horcruxes, and say who Lavender was. There was a lot more, but that's all I can remember right now. There was a question for nearly every major scene.
But you don't know about Horcuxes until that book anyways, and there isn't really much more explanation in the book then in the movie! And Fenrir wasn't really in it yet! And they explain at the end that Malfoy was fixing the cabinet! YOu don't know until the end in the book either! *nods* I would have just told your friend to watch it and they'll find out what they need to know!!!

Fenrir wasn't introduced in the film, he was there but I don't think his name was ever mentioned apart from on the Wanted poster. To be honest, there were so many questions it got to the stage where I was telling him to just read the book. I don't give any of my books to other people but I was telling him to just have it and read it.
i'm going to get so flamed for this, but oh well.
i think people who haven't read the books and just go see the films are really annoying (obviously excluding people who can't read). it's the most popular children's book in the world, just read it before you start asking questions about the films! plus they miss out on so much. the way its written, the detail etc.
Why would you get flamed! lol! The books were brilliant! And i've read them so many times I know them almost back to front! lol
I just hate it when people watch a movie after reading a book and then go on and on (my father-in-laws girlfriend does this) about how much better the book is. Well... duh! The book has about a thousand times more detail! But yeah. Watch the movie for the movie. Don't watch the movie and expect it to be as good as the book!

i don't agree that it's "annoying" in general but what is annoying is when people who haven't read the books expect the same level of detail and explanation from a movie as in a book.
no disrespect to you, the one who (claire?) but for example

within the context of the film fenrir is not important at all, and any casual watcher of the film wouldn't notice the wanted poster or at least would dismiss it as something mostly unrelated.
I don't expect great detail, but I am of the opinion that a film adaptation should be able to be watched and enjoyed (and understood!) by someone who hasn't the read the book, in the same way that a sequel should be enjoyable without having seen the previous film. Maybe that's just me though.
They might as well have replaced Fenrir with an anonymous Death Eater, since that way someone who hasn't read the book wouldn't have had to ask who he was or why he was there. It would have been better if they had.
As for the other Horcruxes, they might have to have Harry going into the other memories himself (there were a few more in the cabinet) and working it out with Ron and Hermione, or rather, just Hermione since Ron is there for comic relief only it seems.
But why does it matter if Fenrir was named or not? He was a deatheater. That's why he was there. That's the important thing. And if someone hasn't read the books, they're just going to think "oh he's a death eater". That's all! If you're explaining things to them, then stop! Just say "he's a death eater". He's not important at all in this movie or in the next really.
It's a movie. If you're watching it and expecting the same level of detail as the book you will never be happy and I would seriously reccomend against watching the next two movies. Unless of course you're just one of those people who likes to pick apart movies....

Okay, I've calmed down quite a bit about this and ranted about it on my facebook, so please don't flame me for giving my opinion.
I never expect the words in the book to magically appear on the screen, that is impossible, and I understand that. What I DO expect, is that the story be followed properly and that major events not be meddled with so much. There were random things thrown in and major events taken out in HBP and there was a lack of information for people who hadn't read the book. Not EVERY detail needs to be in the film, like (as much as I hate to say it) Fenrir Greyback, but the fight scene at the end should not have been skipped over in place for Belatrix having some fun destroying the Great Hall.

It matters because it was unclear who he was. He's not really a Death Eater either, he's a werewolf who supports Voldemort's cause. I know he's not important, but making it clear who is who for people unfamiliar with the books is important, in my mind.

As I've said, I'm not. What I do want is for the major plot lines to be followed in such a way as to portray the essence of the book, and for it to be done in such a way that you don't have to be a Potter-head to fully understand.
i honestly think that if i hadn't read the books I would have absolutely no idea what happened in that film.
As it stands, i feel like I must have fallen asleep for about an hour and missed loads because they can't have possibly left out that much...
I dragged a friend along who hadn't read that particular book and I had so much explaining to do, it was very very annoying.
I honestly think this is the worst Harry Potter film to date.
I came out and shouted obscenities whilst surrounded by alot of small children =]
Good job I wasn't in uniform :)
I just wanted to add, even if I managed to overlook the amount of amazingness they left out of the film, the fact they unnecessarily changed so many stupid little things really annoyed me.
Firstly, Luna finding Harry instead of Tonks, secondly the colour of Felix, thirdly the fact they apparated to the cave instead of going by broom... I honestly don't see why any of that needed to be changed.
Also, In the Deathly Hallows films i'm assuming they're just going to cut out the ENTIRE wedding sequence because no one would even remember who Bill and Fleur are.
^Yeah, Bill hasn't really been shown or anything, so I think there's a big cut on that.
Some things are far more...appealing on screen than in imagination, I think. Which is why all the death eaters come in clouds of smoke instead of brooms, etc.
Let's put a smile on that face

We're really not so different after all

In the book they do apparate to and from the cave. They use brooms to quickly get back to Hogwarts. But, apart from that I agreed with everything else entirely.

I think the Order do that weird flying thing too. Apparating would be quicker, but I think it is just to make it seem more appealing on screen, and it'd be quicker, easier, and cheaper than putting them on brooms.
