I'm leaving the country for 3 weeks on Tuesday and I've just had a terrible terrible thought; is there anything special I have t to get medication through customs? I have a months supply already and it's prescribed, nothing over the counter.
I'm flying from the UK to South Africa, June 30th - July 21st. I'm on Mirtazapine (AKA Remeron) 45mg (15mg when I get up and 30mg before I sleep). I'm taking 30 tablets of each, so 60 tablets in total. Anyone have any ideas? I'd rather not go through withdrawal on a 25 hour flight :/
It'll probably be okay but I wanted to check. Have any of you had any problems at airports?
Thanks

Oh god I hadn't thought about this and I'm off to Sweden in a couple of weeks!
You must be able too, I mean it's not like you could pick up prescriptions in another country unless you were registered with a doctor there.
Hope someone has the answer!
DO NOT PUT MEDICATION IN YOUR CHECKED LUGGAGE!!! Absolutely carry all of it with you, not just what you'll need on the flight. You should never check anything that you can't do without if they lose your luggage, and prescription medications absolutely fall into that category.
You shouldn't have any trouble carrying it with you. It's perfectly legal to bring any and all medications across international borders provided that the substance is legal in both countries (mainly only an issue for medical marijuana), it's in quantities that are appropriate for personal use, and not suggestive of intent to sell it (30 pills each of two different doses is definitely fine -- it's only if you had a suitcase full of it or something), and if it requires a prescription in the country you're entering, you have the appropriate prescription (although they're unlikely to check unless you have a suspiciously large quantity).
And Mirtazapine is barely even a controlled substance -- it's not a drug of abuse or anything, and the prescription requirement is mainly just cause determining doses and such need medical supervision rather than because people would take it recreationally or whatever -- so they're not going to worry about it much anyway. But even with Schedule II substances it wouldn't be a problem -- I've traveled internationally with Ritalin, Concerta, two forms of Xanax, and Lexapro, and I never had a problem, even when three of the five were in a daily pill sorter and I didn't even had the bottles (and associated prescription info) with me. The only time I've had security or customs or anyone even look at any of my meds was when I had prescription cough syrup, and that was only at security because it was a liquid (you're allowed to carry liquid medications in any quantity, but security has to inspect them).

dear god!!!!!
i'm also flying out on tuesday lol - good thought!!!! hadnt even occurred to me!
i'm taking 2 weeks worth of citalopram in a side-pocket of my bag so it doesnt seem too important - not on show but not hidden. i've got a photocopy of the prescription too, thank god for mums with OCD
if its a bit late for doctors notes.. take your whole first aid kit (barring scissors etc) in hand luggage. my dad has taken VERY strong ibuprofen in hand luggage before because he had a knee operation, and 4 years ago i was barely capable of standing because i caught an ear infection. mum basically carried me onto the plane home, showed the medication and nobody kicked up a fuss, but they checked her first aid kit slightly more rigorously - that was it :)
I got a letter from my doctor (an official looking one, lol) in case there were any problems when i went overseas lately.

I was fine taking diazepam to Ireland. I didnt have a doctors note or anything, although I imagine it's best to get one or photocopy the prescription to take with you.
Isn’t it funny how day by day nothing changes but when you look back, everything is different…

Yeah, I just wanted to agree that you shouldn´t have any problems. I had a doctors note for my insulin, but nothing for my ADs and APs.
I brought 65 days worth of each, and no'one even asked to check my bag, let alone question why I needed my meds.
I do always carry a copy of my prescription, just cause it´s useful to have, and makes it easier to obtain meds if anything goes wrong.
Have a fabulous holiday!

put all medication in your hand luggage you will be fine taking it on, ive been through customs with meds and they never said a word or checked nothing so dont panic.
The only two things I would suggest is to take them in the original bottles and have a letter from your doctor verifying the script. You shouldn't have a problem, but in case you get a guard who's an arse it's nice to have something on hand. Carry them with you, though.

Unless it is a controlled drug I'm sure it is fine with just the back part of the script to show it is a regular and needed med.
I can't see it being a prob.
Only time meds are a prob is for travel insurence and some places not insuring cos you on meds therefor may be ill when away.

i'm tired of chasing my dreams. i'm just gonna ask where they're going, and hook up with them later.
everytime i've been on holiday with meds i've been fine.

Im unsure about my meds,, cos I have Temazepam which is a schedule 2&3 sign for med. Its illegal without prescription in the UK (Class C) and in other countries, Im sure its illegal too.
Im gonna have to enquire about that!
Mirtazipine is a legal med without high misuse risk so you will be fine. Just copy a prescription if your worried.
