Lol. In regards to my children. I would give them the choice. No point 'forcing' them. But I probably wouldn't cook it. My partner is a huge meat eater so if we are still together when we have kids then that's his job :P But I'm fully fine on them eating it. I just hate the taste. So yesh
well i dont see it as forcing.
cos technically, by giving them a meat eating diet, your forcing that on them.
until a kids old enough to make their own mind up, then they live the lifestyle their parents/care givers 'forced' upon them.
i'm pro-choice.
but i will ' force' my diet on my kids, until they know what they are doing, and can make their own mind up.

I agree with this. Face it, if you give a young child the choice of what he/she wants to eat, he/she will eat nothing but sweets.
That early in a child's development, it is imperative that they receive the correct diet to enable them to develop properly. I know that knowadays there are lots of alternatives to meat that can provide protein but the fact is that it's a lot harder to get the same levels of protein from a vegetarian diet than by feeding them meat. With proteins so much more important early on as it fuels growth, I don't see it is simply a case "I'll feed my child weeds until he's old enough to know reason" as it will be healthier for them to ensure they get the right amounts of the right sorts of proteins and actually grow and develop properly.

What is this correct diet business? It's nonsense to say that a child must eat meat in order to be healthy, most medical professionals and dieticians will agree that there is absolutely nothing wrong with bringing up a child on a vegetarian diet. Animal proteins from meat are not necessary for healthy development, otherwise you'd see a mass of health problems with veggies.
The majority of parents who feed their kids meat tend to wrongly assume that throwing chicken nuggets and burgers their way is enough to ensure a substantial protein intake whereas veggies tend to be more concious as to what they're eating and thus know about what is relevant and necessary in a diet. A person can gain plenty of protein from nuts, lentils, pulses, beans, milk, eggs, and cheese without having to consume meat as well.

This is untrue anyway. Humans are natural herbivores, but we can digest meat because most of us are fed meat from a very, very young age. However, if a long-time vegetarian eats meat for the first time in years, or the first time in their entire life, then they'll feel sick. Likewise, a long-time meat eater suddenly adopted a vegetarian diet (as I did), he/she won't have cravings for meat. If humans were natural omnivores we'd have sharper teeth, so as to be able to chew tough meat (a function we've replaced with the steak-knife).
But I digress.
I've been vegetarian for almost a year now and I wouldn't change it. I was actually really shocked when I realised I didn't miss meat.
I don't eat meat very often, but I do adore it and could never give it up.
Have always found that vegetarians smell a bit strange - not being funny here, it's just an observation.
i smell nice. *sniffs self* yeh.
and
im not gonna pretend i know all.
cos i dont.
but when it comes to teeth.
yeah ok, wolves, lions, tigers, big things with big **** off teeth basicly
obviously for meat
but we dont have those teeth
ours despite being ever so slightly pointy
dont look like the rest of the carnivores.
idk
maybe we were meant to eat meat
but this puzzles me.
Actually our teeth point to the fact that we are omnivores and therefore are supposed to have meat in our diet. We have canines that herbivores don't (the pointy teeth either side of the front four) and out molars (large teeth at tha back) are a hybrid between the sharp crushing teeth of carnivores and the flat grinding teeth or herbivores. That's why when you see a cow or a sheep eating, they grind their teeth from side to side. They don't have an up and down action as they chew. The fact that we do and our molars are sharp, combined with the presence of canines shows that we are designed in part for eating meat.

I'm veggie! I also remember the last thread!
Well, technically I'm pescatarian, but only since about 2 months ago, before that I was totally vegetarian and have been since birth!
I really respect you calling yourself a pescatarian. Something that has always bugged me is people who are adamant about calling themselves vegetarians, even though they eat fish. (sorry to anyone out there that does that, it's just a personal gripe :p )

I've had people telling me they are vegetarian when they eat fish and/or chicken and it really bugs me too. I'm a vegetarian and I don't eat either of those things =]

Didn't happen to me, I was a vegetarian from 18 months old until about 2 months ago, so pretty much 22 years. And I haven't been sick/felt sick after eating meat at all and I actually feel healthier now than I had done for a long time. I am much happier now being a meat eater than I was a vegetarian. But each to their own.

I went to a party recently, and the host knew I was vegetarian. I was offered either Tuna Steak or Chilli (with real meat in), and when I asked if there was a veggie option, she said that the Tuna Steak was veggie. I explained that I didn't eat fish, and she asked me what I called that. I just said that I was Vegetarian, and she said "no, vegetarians eat fish!"
So I had to explain the difference between a pescatarian and vegetarian.
It annoyed me slightly. So yes, what Erin said - I also respect you for that.

Thanks. The reason I call myself pescatarian is because that's exactly what I am now. I used to be vegetarian, properly, no fish, but now I'm not.
Basically, it annoys me too!
