I guess the way it's come across is "they're not doing what they need to be a mod but we're not going to tell them what needs to change" like "you're not good enough for the team but we're not going to tell you what you need to improve on to make the team".
I mean, I don't reckon there are alot of people who actually WANT to be mods! So maybe the selection should change? Instead of mods picking and choosing, have an application process or something so that those who do want a chance can apply and if they don't make it you can give them feedback and why not. Instead of saying 'there were a few males in contention but they just weren't good enough'....
"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
That's assuming they know what exactly would make them mod material. I know I have no idea. So maybe a pm or even a post about what makes someone "mod material". I don't know about the others, but I really can't tell much difference between "normal" members and the staff!
So we can get a whole bunch of people putting on an act in an effort to get a mod role? Yeah, maybe not actually.

Well theyre obviously not?Its not like we tell female members either, its not a big conspriacy to keep the men out. I can think of loads of times Ive wished there was a male point of view on the team, but there arent any suitable candidates right now. Its not that theyre not 'good enough' just that they and what 5000 female members dont fill what is necessary.
There are LOADS of people who want to be mods and an application would be the same as us choosing in the end. Also for informations sake Charlie PMd me and told me she would love to be a mod and she was put up and look at her now. I dont see why we should have to spend any extra time we have on here explaining to upset members why they dont fill what we need. There was ONE male up and he was considered, but he didnt fit, nothing to do with being male.
Youre bad mouthing a process you know nothing about and i dont see how you can.
There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you.
But there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself.
I aint no abacus but you can count on me.
So we can get a whole bunch of people putting on an act in an effort to get a mod role? Yeah, maybe not actually.
So you wouldn't be able to tell who was putting on an act but simply just looking at how they behaved? I mean, if they're whole behaviour and **** changed then yeah, but if they were actually IN contention to become a mod, it can't have been the bad.
"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
i dont get it Jess.. you want to know what theyre looking for in order for people to become mods... but when people start adhering to that criteria, they shouldnt be made mods because theyre changing their behaviour?!
Maybe that's the problem. We don't know anything abouit it. It's this big secret process where no one is told that people are even being considered. I'm not bad mouthing anything. I didn't say "the way you do this is ****" i said "maybe you could do this" it was a suggestion! Not a freaking critisicm!

Who has the time to closely monitor EVERY member. :|
If anyone wants to PM me with some males you think would make good mods,id be interested to see it!x

Nah Charlie that's not what I mean. For a member to be in contention to become a mod, they have to be doing most things right yes? So if they don't make it, it would be a few things they're not doing right or simply not doing? So if you gave that person feedback on that, then they could either change it or ignore it.
"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
Liv, we're not bad mouthing the process, or the mods or anything else. We are simply trying to offer suggestions about increasing the number of male staff members, as they are an incredibly under-represented faction of RYL.
Well it breaks my heart to see you this way,
The beauty in life, where's it gone?
And somebody told me you were doing okay,
Somehow I guess they were wrong.

youre making problems out of something you dont even know about!Yes its a secret process and theres loads of reasons for that, we dont tell anyone for a reason.christ.

So now we dont make male staff feel wanted?thats nice.
RYL in general feels unwelcoming to males
I understand that you will choose who you feel is best for the mod position but it doesn't even seem you can see a problem that this is a mixed site and it just comes across as it's controlled by females and to me that doesn't seem right :\
duff, did you read any of the other posts?we cant put a male mod in just because hes male,it cant work like that.

the webmaster is a guy?! (not that hes here much)
can i ask, what would you like to see change, or happen that would make RYL better for you as a male?
Its difficult because obviously we cant control who joins, and what most members post about.
and i dont think we overly control as such, we more ensure the rules that Harley made are adhered to.
The only way to make the site more equal is to find more males to join so there are more males to consider for staff roles etc. Maybe more effort should be put into that.
