Was my Maplin kit spyware?

When visiting the Imperial War Museum, back in about 1996 or 1997, I saw an old Maplin kit I had assembled sat next to a genuine Enigma machine.

Was this genuinely put there because someone had, successfully, sold it to the curator as 'Modern-day spy equipment', as it was labeled? Or was someone just pulling my leg?

If there's anyone with easy access to the Imperial War Museum (London), I'd be very grateful if they were able to check it out, to see if it's still there. Can't imagine they get handed 'genuine spy equiqpment' every day!

It wasn't, as far as I was concerned. It was just an electronic kit of some sort.
